White Vs. Ivory

KenWay, on September 28, 2010 at 2:11 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 24

Ok, I don't look good in that bright white! It makes me appear much darker in photos than I am! lol. . . So my dress is Ivory and my veil is Ivory too. I am not too picky but is it bad that I plan to wear a ivory dress but my wedding colors will be black and white for everyone else in the wedding party? Like will it look weird if the groom's men have on white shirts with suits and I have on Ivory? In other peoples pics sometimes I can't even tell that their dress is not white against everything else and good lighting...IDK Do you think people pay that close attention? I don't want my family talking bad about me like why is her wedding decor black and white if she is wearing Ivory?! You know...hmmm examples below of Ivory verses White....which one is which? and are you sure or is it just lighting????

My dress was ivory, almost cream. In my profile pic, taken outside, it looked white. But here is an example of me standing next to my fg, who was in white. You can see the difference. Ivory next to ivory however appears white on film, as you can see when I'm standing next to hubby who was also in ivory.

My dress is ivory. My colors are green, brown, white. The groom is wearing an ivory vest and shirt. The groomsmen are wearing fern green vests with white shirts.

I think the first picture is white. I do not think it will look weird. With the black mixed in I think you should be able to tell the colors are white.

BUT!!! If you look better in ivory, by all means choose ivory. I looked awful and washed out in white.

I am also wearing ivory. I was told that the groom HAS to wear ivory, too, or else it won't look right in photos. You should probably keep the groomsmen in ivory, too. As far as decor, I'm sure white is okay. I do like the look of second picture better, is that ivory? it looks a lot warmer.

Anyone you will be standing next to should be in ivory, but the decor should be fine, there won't be too many pictures of you with it.

JulyBride is right- if you wear ivory and have your other colors white and black, anytime you stand next to someone or something white, your dress will look yellow-ish in comparison. It just doesn't work- unfortunately! I'm having issues too- I look bad in white, FH looks bad in ivory.

Hmmmm that sucks that it will look off because I have no intention of changing my colors or dress...oh well I guess I am just going to look a little off because my FH looks great in his black suit with a white shirt and green tie so I guess we will just look a little color odd in pics but we will look good when he is not facing the front lol. My bridesmaid dresses are black and accent colors around the room will be green against the black and white...I will just be the odd ball lol

I would gave FS wear Ivory to match you & the groomsmen wear whatever matches the BM. My DS wore black & the boys wore white shirts but my girls wore black, so I did it backward but it'd work for you I am sure. Besides DS loves black & white makes him appear heavier, it did me, too but I am OK with it

Wearing all black in July in Texas is not going to work at all they would be dying in those clothes. I really may just stick to black and white on everyone but myself because I look great in my Ivory dress and I know with properly position camera shots you shouldn't be able to tell :-) IDK...it may look silly but we may have to just suck it up lol

If you choose ivory, (if you like ivory) on you, wear ivory and change your flower girls to ivory and the men's shirts and handkerchiefs to ivory also, you CAN tell the difference in photos.

Wow I was going to say I wouldn't think it would matter that much but lighting is everything I guess. My dress is ivory and so is my veil. In the first pic the dress looks white to me....in the second it looks more Ivory to me

Have you considered doing an Ivory and Black wedding instead of a white and black wedding? If it is all the same colour, people might not even realize it's Ivory and will just assume it's all white.

Nothing much to add but can I just say I thought this was a WHOLE nother discussion!!! LOL

I am elated to see this is not a ivory vs white debate (ie pure vs not-so-pure, go'on and stick a red "A" on my chest).

@ Ty W., your so funny lol. @ Rachel W. my venue comes with black and white linens and chairs without an extra cost so that is why. I don't want to spend extra money on something I could have gotten for free and I am using the black and white damask pattern and I love it much more than black and Ivory damask, The Ivory and black damask together is too warm looking for my July wedding. My colors are black and white with accents of turquoise and lime, I just don't feel the Ivory on anything else but me. I think I may stick with it, I pulled a few pictures and did some homework on other weddings and I really seriously couldn't tell unless I am just looking hard. My photographer did a great job on our engagement photos and since most of the wedding photos will be outdoors I think she can play off the lighting well :-)

Thanks for the insight ladies your the best

My dress is ivory, I could have ordered it in white but i think that I looked better in the ivory colored dresses than white ones. We are doing ivory shirts for the guys, chocolate tuxes and a color called cognac for the vest/ties. It is a really nice fallish color that is like a dark orange/red that goes great with our fall theme.
