white vs Ivory?

2021Snowbride, on September 6, 2018 at 2:47 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 17

Hey everyone! So i recently read some comments in a post about White dresses and now I am needing some advice! I saw a lot of people say ivory looks white and no one can tell the difference and looks great in photos. My issue is; Can you see the difference between ivory and white when your colors are white and black? How will an ivory dress look next to white linen, decorations, FH Suit etc? Should i still do white or can i do ivory?

I think your dress is fine if it differs. It only bothers me if plates are white and linens are ivory, or something specific to do with tableware.

It wouldn't look tacky or weird if my dress isn't as white as everything else? It is a black and white wedding. I love ivory, i just dont want to look funny haha. The entire venue is very white, I will only be adding some black and bling to it so I need to be sure before i walk into an all white venue with an ivory dress at a black and white wedding lol as much as i try not too, i will compare haha

I mean you'll be able to notice the difference. It wouldn't bother me because I'd look terrible in white white. A lot of dresses also don't come in white, so that's something to think about. I think you'd be fine, but it depends how much it would bother you

Well the dress i really like in store was white, or at least it looked white to me lol and we thought i looked great but now im wondering if it was white or not, if not than i would be fine lol. If i can see a difference it will drive me nuts and bother the crap out of my OCD and I will unfortunately focus on it too much (can not help it)

There are different shades of ivory so this will depend on how "ivory" your dress is. But, in general, you should not try to match your dress with the decor. Let the decor stand for itself. It is fine if your dress is ivory and the rest of the decor is white. I agree with FutureMrsD that it would be more of an issue if your decor didn't look right together. Personally, I like the different shades/hues of white and ivory together.

If you want to see what a dark ivory dress looks like next to pure white, here is a pic of me in my dark ivory dress with my flower girls who wore pure white.

Hi 2021Bride! I'm sure it will be completely fine! If you are concerned about not matching your FH and clashing with your linens you could always bring a swatch of your linens or his suit coat with you to get some reassurance in person. Have you already bought your dress? IS this something you're thinking about while in the search for your dress?

Depending on the type of fabric it won't matter. If you wear a plain ivory satin dress or something like that it may be noticeable, but if you want something with embellishments I think it wouldn't be as obvious. My wedding gown is ivory lace with beading and everyone thought it was white when I tried it on. Although, my venue is not all white and my linens are ivory so it's not something I really thought about.

@Sam I just wanted a white dress lol and then when we decided to do black and white it solidified my decisions to do white. But now that I am reading all these posts about the white making them look funny or not looking white in photos and what not its concerning me. No I have not yet purchased it.

You all look absolutely beautiful! I read many times that white looks kind of bluish in pictures and I do not see that with their dresses! I love the white!!

The dress next to linen doesn't matter to me. People's opinion on this differs however, my bridal store told me since my dress is ivory that my FH will need an ivory shirt. Same with my friend and it was nice. Ivory and white in dressings don't have a large difference to me. I picked my dress in ivory because it showed the sparkle better. i judged my dress color on that particular dress not anything else.

Maybe i should try on real white dresses and see what i think of myself in white? I do have a lot of white clothes that i love however that is not the same as my wedding dress.

I would caution you against getting an ivory shirt for your FH because men's ivory shirts usually look more yellow than white. I recommend sticking with the standard white shirt. Here's a picture with the men wearing white shirts with their tuxes.

I do kind of see the bluish in this pic, not sure if i care though lol

Thank you for that, they look great! And I can tell their shirts look more white than the girls dresses and that matters, did it look the same in person? Did they all look white i mean?

Thanks! I think I’m going to confirm it with my dress prior. To be certain. My friend had an ivory dress and her now husbands shirt was a perfect fit with her ivory dress. They tried both to see the difference.

I honestly don't think I noticed any difference, but even if I did it wouldn't have mattered to me. I guess it just depends on how much it would matter to you. As you probably have noticed, there are different shades of both white and ivory that if you try to match every single item to a particular shade you could drive yourself crazy.
