White VS Ivory

Paulina, on February 19, 2015 at 9:47 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 61

I am going for my first dress shopping experience on the 28th so I'm trying to Pin and Google as many dresses as possible. I really have no idea what I'm going to love or want other than to want to feel beautiful and make my FH's jaw drop!

Anywho. By definition, I know the difference between white and ivory but when I look at pictures, it almost looks the same to me. Show me some pictures ladies and clarify for me, please! When you get an ivory dress, can you see that it isn't white? This is the only time I'll be able to wear white so I'm wondering if ivory will even be an option for me. Humph!

My dress is Ivory and you can definitely see the difference in person. Its all about how you feel in it.

Not only white or ivory, but shades of each...there are so many choices! It looks white, but it is actually a white-ivory.

My dress is ivory also but its more on the lighter ivory vs a yellow ivory. I think you will be able to have a better opinion about it when you are shopping and see what you like.

When you go shopping your consultant will help you out. They take into account your skin complexion. I am very fair skin so they told me to go with an ivory dress. My sister wore ivory as well and it photographs white. Sometimes white can look too crisp white which some people do not like as it washes them out. ALSO, you might find a dress you love but white is not an option. Don't let that turn you away. Ivory is just as close.

    Best of luck!

I'm pale with red hair and realized very quickly when dress shopping that I looked much better in an Ivory dress then a White one.

It also depends on the designer and even then can vary from dress to dress.

Mine is called ivory but it looks WHITE to me!

My dress looks more ivory than it really is with this lighting... i think they called it "diamond white" which is basically just a very light off-white. my seamstress had the HARDEST time finding a ribbon for my sash that matched my dress because of how un-ivory it is. haha. it's just a veeery light ivory.

My dress is called ivory but it definitely looks white. I wish it looked more ivory but oh well.

When you are out dress shopping, be open-minded. I tried on a dress I thought I would hate and I ended up loving it and vice versa. Don't be afraid to try on many different styles!

My dress is ivory - for me it was about making sure I looked the best in it. I'm VERY pale - and the brighter white made me look washed out. The ivory toned that down a lot.

I wanted a white dress but the one I loved came only in ivory so I settled with that. It looked white to me until I stood next to DH who had a white vest and tie and to me my dress looked dirty. I was so upset. Here's a pic that really shows the difference. It also has a lot of beading so I'm sure that made the color look different too.

Mine is ivory. I knew all along I didn't want white. You can def tell the difference in colors when you hold them up next to each other. Ask you consultant to do that if you are still unsure. Also, be careful, certain ivorys can look yellow-ish next to a true white.

I pinned and pinned and pinned, all different types of dresses, I had NO IDEA what I wanted, but when I got to the store, I didn't even show my consultant. SHE actually ended up picking out the dress I said yes to. While it is good to have an idea of what you'd like, also be open minded about trying things you never thought you would wear. I honestly can say I would have NEVER chose the dress she did, but I fell in love right away! Somehow it was just.... me.

Good luck, take lots of pictures, and don't settle! You will know when you know its the one Smiley smile

I ended up with ivory because it was better with my complexion. You'll know when you put 'white' on if you like it or not. Also, most dresses come in a few colors, white, ivory and a variation of one of those so if you love a dress its not hard to find it in a color you like.

You'll def notice in person the difference between white and ivory, I never liked white, it just looked bright. I went with a champagne dress with a lace ivory overlay felt more romantic to me

It depends on the designer I think. My dress is Mori Lee. I fell in love with one in the shop, and was told it was Ivory. We all thought the sales lady was mistaken until she brought me out the same dress in white. It was blindingly white! Their ivory still looks white, but just not as bright. Be open to different ideas. I may not have liked my dress if I had tried it on in bright white to begin with. Good Luck!!

Mine is ivory. I thought I wanted white but I think ivory was the best look for my skin tone. My dress hasn't come back yet, but I'm hoping my actual dress is a light ivory, not a yellowy-one. Some whites seemed to bright to me when I tried them on, and I didn't like the overall look. Like others have said, you'll know when you see it.
