White VS Ivory

Anywho. By definition, I know the difference between white and ivory but when I look at pictures, it almost looks the same to me. Show me some pictures ladies and clarify for me, please! When you get an ivory dress, can you see that it isn't white? This is the only time I'll be able to wear white so I'm wondering if ivory will even be an option for me. Humph!

Angel has a pretty strong opinion about it haha, but I'd have to agree with some of the other ladies above in that I think the white vs. ivory conversation has a lot to do with complexion and skin tone. I wasn't sold either way going into the shopping process, but found that white made my skin glow in a way that ivory didn't. Melissa also made a great point about taking into account what the guys are wearing... mine aren't wearing a jacket, just a white shirt and khaki vest, so I wanted to make sure I didn't look "dirty" next to him.

Definitely try on one of each shade whether it's a dress you're interested in or not just to see it on you! Good luck.

My consultant said most bridal shops rarely carry sample dresses in white anymore because hardly anyone orders them, because ivory just looks so much better on most people's skin tones! This is my dress- its ivory and so is my veil. Obviously, it looks white!

When I got my dress I thought it was white, well they told me the sample I tried on was 'diamond white', but they could only order it for me in white. Really, really what the hell was the difference. I really didn't notice any difference. I'm sure if they were hung next to each other I'd see a little bit, but for me, it's just white.

My dress is alabaster. I have no idea what color that is lol. I think it's sort of in between ivory and white. I knew I didn't want a bright white, cause they tend to look more costume-y in my opinion. When FH got his suit I brought my dress swatch along and we found a shirt that's the same color, so I won't look dingy next to him in pictures.

Yeah, I've heard bright white only looks good on people with darker skin/olive tones. Mine is ivory, but even my mom thought it was white. The sales person can help you figure out what works for you and most dresses come in multiple shades. Smiley smile

Mines is white-ivory, to be honest whatever makes you look good. White makes me look dull, while ivory makes me pop since I'm Latin and have that olive/yellow skin tone.

Pale, white, redhead here. White looked ridiculous on me. Going for an ivory or cream like color to not wash me out.

My dress is diamond white. It is a happy medium between white and ivory.

The ladies at the bridal shop recommended that for shoes, veil, etc... I opt for ivory if I can't find diamond white.

Most places seemed to recommend ivory, to avoid being washed out but it is ultimately your choice.

White flushes me out big time...LOL...so, I went with ivory. It's all about what you feel when you have it on. =)

I tried on both and ended up with ivory. It looked better on me and my pale skin. Also, I just loved the dress as it was, the sample was ivory and I couldn't imagine it in white, I think it would've lost some of the detail.

Mine is white. I saw the Ivory in store and loved it, but wanted white.

Also note what color tux or jacket FH is wearing. The difference is noticable w/ a grooms white shirt but a professional will make it look fine. but it is almost ugly the way an ivory dress looks next to a white tux or jacket. Ive seen it in wedding photos, please ladies sit down w/ fh & explain the difference

Agree to that!! ^^ white tux or shirt makes and ivory dress look dirty... Well that's my opinion

Mine is Ivory. It can have more of a creamy tone in certain lighting but most of the time it just looks white. My sample I tried was ivory and I was way to scared to order white without seeing it.

My dress was ivory and the FG's dress was white. I think the difference in color is pretty minimal. I tried on a white dress that I had liked but my parent's said it washed me out (I'm fair skinned) and it looked too wintery for my summer wedding. Good luck and have fun dress shopping!

Lots of ivory dresses it seems. I also have ivory (swore I would wear white ) then I tried it on..& since I'm very fair skin light ivory looks best on me.

Also , I never considered the mermaid style ...& That style looked amazing on me!! So be very open to trying any style not just what you think you would like

You will probably never notice color from a picture and will only notice once you get in the shop and actually start looking at dresses. Ivory's can very from almost white to a yellowish color depending on the designer. And whites are the same. From something that can blind you it's so white to a duller white. You can also do Champagne or gold, which can range from an off white to almost brown color.

Be mindful of what your FH is going to wear for a tux and don't try on a dress just because you don't think the color won't look good on you. Try them all on.

I'm fair skinned but in the summer I spend 90% of my life outside and get pretty tanned by the end of summer.

I went with a white dress because FHs tux jacket is white and the Ivory version of my dress looked dirty compared to his jacket. The white also looked awesome against my sun darkened skin.
