I am going for my first dress shopping experience on the 28th so I'm trying to Pin and Google as many dresses as possible. I really have no idea what I'm going to love or want other than to want to feel beautiful and make my FH's jaw drop!

Anywho. By definition, I know the difference between white and ivory but when I look at pictures, it almost looks the same to me. Show me some pictures ladies and clarify for me, please! When you get an ivory dress, can you see that it isn't white? This is the only time I'll be able to wear white so I'm wondering if ivory will even be an option for me. Humph!

I have very pale skin and every white dress looked awful on me so the one I fell in love with is mocha (looks like coffee ice-cream) with an ivory lace overlay. It's GORGEOUS and I'm absolutely in love with it. Keep an open mind and try on different variations of 'white'. You'll know when you've found 'the one'. Good luck and have fun!

My dress is ivory and you can't tell that it isn't white unless there is something white nearby to compare it to (hence why the cake, table linens, and groom/groomsmen shirts will be ivory instead of white). I didn't realize it wasn't white until the consultant told me so.

My dress is ivory. I tried on dresses in white and in ivory and I could tell the difference in person.

This is ivory lace over champagne fabric--in person, the color looks a bit warmer.

My personal opinion is that ivory looks a hell of a lot more expensive than white. I don't know why but in my eyes it does. I went with ivory

Mine was ivory and I felt it was almost white. I chose ivory because I do have a son from a previous relationship and my skins soooo fair. Honestly when you find the dress, ivory or white won't matter. Keep an open mind.

Agreed with all the commenters! Be open to everything at your first fitting. I had my heart set on a boho ivory, but unlike most commenters here that shade washed me out. I am pale, but with yellow/olive undertones and I looked A LOT nicer in the white satin dress... EXACTLY the kind of dress I didn't want, lol. The lacey boho ivory one was a total fail. "Soft white" looked nice on me too, but it was the bright white that looked nicest... sigh...

I went with ivory. I don't have a pic of me in white. When I tried on the ivory it looked white to me until I tried the white on. The white is very bright. It didn't really match my skin tone. I don't think anyone will notice.

Ivory for me. I tried on white, but it was too much. True white makes a dress look cheaper, ivory is such a richer color. Also designers send samples in the color they think the dress looks best, which is why a white sample dress is almost impossible to find.

I don't have a pic or a stock pic right now, because I can't remember the # of the Casablanca dress that I chose - but it is "ivory" but looks white to me. That's all I kept saying when I went dress shopping. At one point the bridal consultant showed me the difference pointing out that white is a stark white that makes you say whoa that's brilliant white and ivory is ivory, haha. She really didn't say except to also point out just like Maltese said - that when dress shopping there are a LOT of different shades ... gold, beige, blush, pinks, ivories, whites. There are a lot to choose from. I almost went with a Maggie Sottero gold gown, it was a fit and flair with a corset back. Lace. Very pretty. But I ended up going with an A-line, ivory organza gown, with crystal buttons - looks white to me, lol, and it is supposed to come in around April sometime.

I ordered a white wedding dress, but when it came in they sent ivory. It was too late to order the white one again, but I have to say the ivory color looked better on me then the white. Try on ivory and white dresses. Every designer has different shades of ivory some are creamy and some look like white. Good Luck!!!!

I don't have any pictures for you but j went in wanting a white dress, dead set on it. And the dress I ended up getting is ivory and I love it. It isn't as yellow as some ivory dresses so that might be why.

Mine is white-ivory. I didn't want white because it's really bright IMO & I just wasn't a fan of how flashy it seemed. I also didn't want ivory so I went with white-ivory so it's a nice combo of both & looks very elegant.

I am also fair skinned and never thought I could wear white. But once I tried my dress on I loved it! I did get married at the end of the summer so I had a bit of a tan. White it more clean and modern IMO, so it depends on what kind of look you're going for.

Thank you all for the advice and support for my first wedding dress shopping trip! Just thought I'd update you! I ended up buying a dress...in ivory! Smiley winking It was actually the last dress I tried on because I wasn't so into it on the hanger since it had no sparkle but i felt so comfortable and happy in it! I am obsessed with it! Lookie!

Mine is ivory. When I first saw it in the bag I almost didn't try it on because it looked yellowish. But when I tried it on, I loved it. I also tried the same dress on in white but liked it in ivory much better.
