Whitening

Does anyone know of a cost effective (cheap) way to safely whiten my teeth for the big day?

Thanks Melle - I'll give them a try.

When did you start and how long did you use them for?

Definitely crest white strips! You can get a large set on Amazon for around 40 and they work amazingly. I asked my dentist about professional whitening and even she told me just to use crest whitestrips.

Only thing is if your teeth are at all sensitive then you have to wait a day or to between using them. I use them every 2 or 3 days and have been for a couple months and I can see a huge difference!

Charcoal! Bought a bottle at a drugstore for only a few dollars. I break a capsule open (the tablets are a pain to crush) and sprinkle it on my brush over the toothpaste then brush as usual. You can follow up with white strips too!

I've heard that you can use charcoal. I'll have to look into that some more. Thanks Happilee!

Another vote for Crest whitestrips. I used them every evening for about 30 days before my e-pics and wedding and noticed a difference.

    Yup! I agree.

Be careful with Zoom or other dentist treatments. My hubby did before his first wedding and his front tooth chipped on his honeymoon. AFTER he got back his regular dentist told him those treatments can make teeth brittle.

Check Groupon or local places. In my area a professional treatment can be as low as $10!

I looked into professional, but its pretty expensive although I know there are a lot of options on groupon. I'm currently doing Crest whitening strips and I'm getting slow but steady results

Please don't use charcoal!! It is too abrasive for your teeth and can take off enamel. Once it's gone you can't put it back and it makes teeth soooo sensitive Smiley sad

Best otc is crest white strips. Many dentist offices run promotions or specials where you can get the trays with the gel for free by becoming a patient too. I would check out dentist websites near you.

My office does the trays so if you're near MN-look up progressive dental Eagan and we can talk about it more Smiley smile

Yes! I have been using this toothpaste by Crest. It's $12 roughly but it works really well! The only downside is if you have sensitive teeth or gums, it can irritate them slightly. I use sensodyne toothpaste once a week on average and that takes care of it. I have also used 4 Crest whitening strips in the past couple of months to help.

Here’s a before and after of about 4 weeks difference, although honestly I could see one within a week! This is from just the whitening toothpaste.

Thanks for the heads-up Andrea! I've heard about using charcoal or baking soda. I think I'll give the strips a try. I even saw the trays the last time I was in the Walmart here in AK. I probably won't start using anything until I leave here at the end of next month. That still gives me almost 2 full months before our wedding.

I'll look into the dentist office options too. I'm loooong overdue for a cleaning anyway Smiley atonished

    Hey Courtney,

I've seen that toothpaste in Walmart and the Safeway supermarket here in AK. I'll more than likely start trying something once I'm done here for the summer at the end of next month.

I'll have to get this and try it. I used the whitening strips in the past and I had a lot of tooth pain.

Definitely try sensodyne at least once or twice a week, I've seen it help me a lot!
