I just got the confirmation email today that I have an appointment at a bridal store in Boston (I'm in Vermont). I'm pretty excited! I have been mentioning on here how eager I'm getting to make big purchases like my dress. The appointment is in one month from today. My goal was to lose 40 pounds...

I just got the confirmation email today that I have an appointment at a bridal store in Boston (I'm in Vermont). I'm pretty excited! I have been mentioning on here how eager I'm getting to make big purchases like my dress. The appointment is in one month from today. My goal was to lose 40 pounds before the wedding. I'm almost at 10, and hoping to get to at least 15 by the appointment. My wedding is 9 months out, 8 months from the appointment. I know I can lose the remaining 30 in that time. Did anyone else buy a dress in a smaller size and work their butts off to fit into it??

Well... I bought my dress in March swearing that I'd fit it and drop 5 or so in the hips. I've been exercising like a mad woman, but it turns out you can't choose where your body loses.

Hips still wide, legs are like steel.... mission not accomplished.

I'm picking it up tomorrow and I'm guessing it won't fit. I'm ready to cry/vomit. I wouldn't suggest this.

I ordered a size down then what I measured which was a size 10. The sample was a 10 and too loose so with my consultants suggestion we went a size down. It was my decision but I felt I know my body and went with my gut. Came in and fit perfectly but maybe I was just lucky.

I was going to do this but the consultant was absolutely dead set against it. So I didnt. Good thing too cuz the dress came in WAY earlier than anticipated

I wanted to but like Champagne Dream- I lost inches everywhere but my hips. I'm glad I got the size I saw when I tried it on because it would have been harder to let it out than take it back in.

I'm just going to jump on board with everyone else.. don't do it! I have lost 20lbs for the wedding (hoping to need my dress taken in) but the size I ordered still fits, except the bust needed taken in (go figure). The weight I lost was in all the wrong places, and turns out, my hips aren't going anywhere! Good luck on your weight loss journey!

I bought a dress one size smaller. Thank God I fit into it on my wedding day. That was a little stressful. I knew I could reach my goal though as I had been that size a couple of years before and it wasn't "unreachable". Everyone thought I was crazy though. lol.

My BM asked the same question about her dress and I told her the same things the other girls are saying here. Don't do it. Why put that kind of pressure on yourself while planning a wedding? Buy the size you feel comfortable in now and if you lose weight, get it tailored to your body. It's a win win! Smiley smile

I just wanted to add, I lost 40 lbs in 5 months and went from a size 12 to a size 4. It was an AMAZINGLY good feeling that I set a goal and did it! But, I exercised 5-6 days a week (cardio and weight lifting) and ate SUPER clean, counting calories and everything. I was extremely focused and hardly every went out for happy hour, eating out, etc. So, it can be done, but it takes being 100% focused on your goal. Which is hard to do while planning a wedding.

Please do not do this, buy a wedding gown that fits. And when you have your 1st fitting, if need be take it in. It's easier to take in a gown than to let out.

Nope nope and nope. I was working out the whole last year. I ordered by dress the size they measured me at 9 months ago. I have lost 15 pounds and the dress fits like a glove. Not sure why the dress was smaller but it is easy to take a dress in. Not so much to take it out/add fabric/ get a new dress.

Obviously I agree with everyone else, but why does the size matter to you enough to risk having a dress that doesn't fit? They end up altering the dress to be tailored to your exact measurements, so why does the tag size matter to you?
