Who directs the rehearsal?

FutureFuji, on September 30, 2016 at 10:12 AM Posted in Planning 0 9

Is it the officiant? DOC? I have no idea. And do we just rehearse how the ceremony will go? Seems straightforward yet I'm so lost.

My officiant will be at rehearsal just so we can walk through the ceremony. But my sister and I will be running the show. Then I'm telling everyone how the entrance to the reception will go.

Most of the time, it's the DOC because they are actually the person who will be setting up and orchestrating the ceremony on the day. You rehearse walking down the aisle and placement, which is part of why I think it's totally unnecessary in 90% of the weddings we do. A good DOC will keep you on time and on track; since the officiant is the first one up the aisle, we can't really help you after that.

Before your final meeting with your venue, you'll have a list written out that you can make with your officiant, and then they'll know how you want to walk down.

    Most of the time we do;

Officiant and Groom (or other bride)

    Their attendants

Groom's parents (if they don't walk him down)

Bride's mom and escort (if she doesn't walk the bride down)

    MUSIC CHANGE

Bride's attendants, starting with the farthest one away, ending with MOH

Children, if you have FG, RB

    MUSIC CHANGES

    Bride

For the recessional, they just pair up and walk back down the aisle.

    It's pretty simple.

Our DOC will direct the run through of the rehersal along with the officiant for ceremony details.

Our DOC does it for $75 but our officiant said don't waste the money and she will do it for us no charge, so we are doing that Smiley smile

Ok thanks for the advice. My florist actually said I could pay $500 for her to be the DOC so I'm not sure if I'm going to hire her or find someone else. Looks like I'll need one though!

So i had an issue with this too. I didnt realize that i would have to run it bc we didn't have a DOC... Just be ready, if so. I basically had to make up a wedding and rehearsal dinner flow on the spot. Everything worked out but i was almost in tears by the end of it. Just make a plan just in case!

Our DOC ran it and I didn't even go. They made sure everyone else knew where to stand and that was about it. Honestly, it seems pretty unnecessary.
