Who else has a fun decor splurge?

Kimberly, on July 31, 2023 at 2:49 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 10
Hey everyone! I’m curious to know if anyone else had a piece of decor that was definitely a splurge, but you and your partner just had to have it? What was it, and why was it a must have? If you’ve had your wedding already, was it a huge talking point, or did your guests barely even notice?

FH and I definitely have one decor splurge. We went into this whole process with a list of strategies to keep our floral and decor prices down, and one of them was to minimize our table decor and have the area behind the sweetheart table as a focal point so we could just pay for one bigger display instead of getting multiple big pieces for each table (we still have centerpieces, but smaller and using in-season floral). Our inspiration is Cherry Tree Lane (yes, like in Mary Poppins), but we’re in FL, and cherry blossoms are definitely not in season for our wedding. So we were so excited when we found out we could rent a couple cherry blossom trees to frame our table! It’s expensive and absolutely something we could cut, but we feel like it’ll set the theme for our whole reception, even if the guests don’t notice haha. Anyone else?

The cherry blossom trees sound so pretty! I hope you'll share photos after your wedding, I'd love to see how that turns out! My husband and I splurged on a curtain backdrop, with wooden letters that spelled out our favorite line from one of the songs we danced to at our wedding. We originally thought we'd put the backdrop behind our sweetheart table, but ended up using it as a backdrop for the photo booth instead.

That is such a great idea since your guests got to make use of the backdrop too! And I love the idea of incorporating lyrics. That’s so different than the usual initials (what we’re doing lol) or “Mr. and Mrs.”

Most of our splurges were on guest experience. The only high ticket item we had for decor was florals, and that is because I detest fake flowers and had very specific ones I wanted, which had to be flown in. The expense of our tablecloths was a bummer because we had to spend hundreds of dollars to get them shipped overnight to our venue. We just left all our decor (tablecloths, custom napkins, chargers, candles, mercury glass candleholders, sign frames, etc.) behind for the venue to use on future events. Weddings are expensive, so I figured we could help other couples out!

Oh my goodness! I don’t even want to know what the tab on overnight shipping was. What an inconvenient expense!

It was definitely a bummer and NOT a planned expense! We had already purchased all our tablecloths prior. Then, when we flew down to the venue and got to tour the reception space, we realized the event coordinator had sent us the wrong table measurements, so our tablecloths were going to be too short! I had to get online and scramble to find enough table cloths with the correct measurements that could be overnighted 🤦🏼‍♀️

What?!? I would have been so mad!! And stressed!! Your wedding was such a comedy of errors, but your positive attitude about it has been so amazing!! I wouldn’t have been able to hold it together lol.

Omg, comedy of errors is the perfect way to describe our “almost” wedding! That is how I’m going to refer to it from now on 😂😂
Luckily, I have the greatest friends in the world and I was just so excited to spend time with them, that nothing else really mattered! That, and I read over and over again on this forum how you should expect things to go wrong, and you should just roll with it and not let it ruin your day. That always stuck
me…. As it turns out, thank goodness it did!🤦🏼‍♀️😂

We had more people rsvp no making a smaller catering bill, so we had some extra to get a chandelier. Don’t know what guests thought about it, but I loved it. It really looked like it belonged there. At $200 it wasn’t quite a splurge but it wasn’t in the budget either Who else has a fun decor splurge? 1

The chandelier is so pretty and casts such a beautiful light! Lighting is great to splurge on if it's necessary, that way everything else comes together
