Who is getting flowers at your wedding?

Connie, on January 16, 2021 at 6:41 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 17

I don't know that there is a hard and fast tradition regarding who gets boutonnieres and corsages at a wedding, but I am curious to know what y'all are doing!

I am DIYing our flowers and just realized how many boutonnieres and corsages we may need if everyone wants to wear one. It comes out to 10 men and 8 ladies who we want to include! That would be the groom and groomsmen, two dads, a step dad, our brother-in-laws, and an ex step brother on the men's side. And on the women's side it would be two moms, a stepmom, three grandmothers, and 2 sisters! I am kind of hoping some of the girls just want flowers for their hair instead of full corsages! We will be waiting until closer to our wedding before we ask them about it, though.

I think your list is great! 👍 it’s not necessary, but we did flowers for Godparents as well. 🌸

We are skipping corsages and boutonnieres. It just seemed like an unnecessary item no one would miss 🤷🏼‍♀️

What a sweet idea to include them, too! I might have to add mine to the list!

So true! It is important in our family to have them, but if it weren't I would skip it in a heartbeat! I love cutting out the extra fluff.

My fiancé doesn’t want to wear a boutonnière stating “guys don’t wear flowers!”. He doesn’t want the groomsmen to wear them either. I’m making a simple, long stem arrangement (3 flowers with baby’s breath) for my bridesmaids- picked them up at Hobby Lobby on sale. I’m probably going to purchase wrist corsages for FMIL & my stepmom from Amazon- just waiting for them to get their outfits so they can somewhat match. Our venue has an all inclusive package & flowers are included ($500 max, if we go over that we pay the difference). Using fresh flowers for my bouquet, some on the alter & some for centerpieces.

We just did the bridal party, parents, and grandparents. We also did the officiant, who was my husband's uncle.

Bridal party and parents got flowers.
No grandparents, no siblings. I kept it simple. As far as I know no feelings were hurt and if they were 🤷‍♀️ I wasn’t going crazy with flowers. I do know my mom was excited to wear one.

We did boutonnières for all the groomsmen and my dad and father in law and brother. We did bouquets for my bridesmaids and then we did corsages for the mother and mother in law and my sister in law. My bro and sister in law walked down the aisle in the processional so I thought it was nice to give them it too

We did bouquets for the bridesmaids, and bouts for the bridesman, groomsmen, and groomswomen.

I had a bouquet, of course, and then DH had a bout.

In the end, my MIL requested a bout, instead of a corsage, because August is HOT in NYC, so we ordered bouts for family. So - my dad, my stepmom, MIL, FIL, and then my dad's frat brother and his wife. (DH's grandfather wasn't able to come, due to his health, and my mother declined to come, so we had extra, and happily gave them to the latter, as they are like my aunt and uncle.)

Typically it's blood relatives and those in important positions.

So that's the moms, sisters, grandmas, dads, brothers, grandpa's, etc with family. The pastor also typically gets one and the ushers. It a cheat sheet of the the important people of the day. But only suggestions. You ultimately decide in the end. Just be sure to have a list to hand them out the day of the wedding that is not you.
