Who is getting married in their hometown?

Christina, on October 16, 2015 at 2:57 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 41

Are you getting married where you grew up / the place you consider home?

If not, why did you choose the state/country/etc for your wedding?

I'm not getting married in my hometown. We decided on Michigan because my FH is from here and we knew we would be moving back and it would just be easier to plan a wedding for where we are living.

We got married in the city where we live - we figured it would make planning much easier. My hometown is abroad, so it would have required a lot of paperwork, and his hometown is a tiny town of 400 people, with ONE community hall and nothing else (not even a church). so not my ideal place, lol.

I am! Well not the exact city/town, but same county. We thought about looking at some Virginia wineries because some are really pretty, but I felt like I had no connection to them. We've never been to any together, it has no significance in our relationship so it just felt random. I realized very quickly how important it is to me to get married where there was some significance and connection. I didn't even want to look at venues in the county right next door. I would have been fine getting married in Michigan where he is from as well but neither of us wanted a destination wedding.

We're getting married close to my hometown even though we live 2000 miles away. I plan to have rehearsal dinner in my town and then the venue is in a valley about 30 miles/50 minutes away. My grandparents are the oldest living members of either of our families (~90) and I really want them to be able to come.

Everyone we know and love including all of our family is here in San Diego. Definitely didn't consider any other place to have it other than here. Smiley smile

We are getting married in FH's hometown (New Orleans). My hometown (Jacksonville, FL) is a 8 hour drive. And it has been tough planning, bc there is a lot of dependency on the planner and his family to do wedding related things. Its also hard bc I have to remind FH what a expense (travel and hotel) this is to 100 percent of my family 7 friends and with that comes a less likelihood they can help physically or financially. But the culture, food, tradition of New Orleans was the best choose, as well as ppl from Houston (where we live) could attend with a 5 hour drive and his mom could be apart of it who has difficulty traveling. So the scaled tipped in favor of his hometown. Where we live (Houston) was never an option for us. And where I am from although cheaper would exclude much of his family (esp his mom) and nearly all of his friends.

Getting married in my home state but it's about an hour from actual home. I chos the venue based on being only about an hour away and was the rustic/historic ambiance I was looking for. Everything closer to home is either too ballroom/banquet or too expensive. The only barn closer to where we live wanted $8,000 before any rentals or catering.

I don't know where my hometown is anymore. I've moved so much as a child and as an adult. I was born in Houston but only stayed there until I was 4 years old, then we moved to Malaysia. I've been a nomad since. LOL.

I'm getting married about 30 minutes from my hometown. My hometown has like two options for venues and both are big halls like VFW type of things, so we opted to go out of town a bit.

I'm getting married close to where I grew up in IL, I chose that because most of the people I'll be inviting still live in that state. I live in MN so I'm long distance planning.

I grew up in the historic town of Brookeville, MD, Capital for a Day. The old Academy (built around 1810) is a lovely building and is available for weddings-- it's catty-corner to the town church, and so there were many weddings held there when I was a kid. I considered getting married there for a minute (it would have save a ton of money!) but in the end, since my husband and I come from 400 miles apart, we decided to get married in between our hometowns, and close to where we live now.

We got married in Georgia which is where FH is from and where we live. I'm from Brooklyn, New York . You have to take out a mortgage to afford to have a wedding there. lol

We got married in my hometown. I couldn't imagine not getting married in the church that I grew up in (as did my mom and grandmother). We live in another town now, about 5 miles away.
