Who is holding your train as you walk down the aisle?

Lynn, on April 10, 2017 at 10:43 AM Posted in Style and Décor 1 31

I was thinking about this earlier. I've heard that tradition is for the maid of honor to hold the train as the bride walks down the aisle ( heard from my mother, no idea if it is actually true). But if the maid of honor has a bouquet, how do they carry the train? Who are you having hold your train? Or do I not have anyone carry my train?

Also, we're not having a flower girl or ring bearer. Who should hold the rings for us? Or should FH and i hold each other's rings until it's time to put them on each other?

Edit added: Answer to my train question: No one! I'm overthinking this due to being so close to the wedding.

No one holds it. It gets fluffed out at the end of the aisle, you walk, then your MOH will reposition it at the top of the aisle.

Hi Lynn. Let the best man hold both rings. He should get those before the ceremony starts.

I have never seen the train being held up while the bride is walking down the aisle. Not even Maria had her train held in The Sound of Music. Based on that alone, it should not EVER happen. Smiley winking

Dudes! That makes so much sense!! I thought I was going crazy over the train! I must be overthinking everything now that it is so close. I almost wish I had Kate's dress. That thing was beautiful!

Best man huh? That sounds good. I wasn't sure if I should give FH's ring to my maid of honor and my ring to the best man or if I should give both to 1 person.

I've never seen anyone hold a train as you walk down the aisle. Just have it arranged before, and MOH arranges it when you get to the altar. My MOH will carry it for the walk of Isaiah (part of a Greek Orthodox ceremony where you walk around a table) so that it doesn't get tangled around things.

No one carries your train. Typically the girls will hold your bouquet and help with your dress during the ceremony. Them and the MOB can help to pin your train up before the reception too.

Often, even when you have a ring bearer, the bm holds the rings- - I've always thought the rb was just for show-

@ Karen, it makes sense that the rb would be for show. could you imagine if the ring was dropped before the couple exchanged rings?

My nephew was 3.5 when I got married the first time- he was the rb- he didn't have real rings on the pillow- they were just ornamental-

My train floated gracefully behind me like the elegant swan that I am.

@ Kmess I hope your ceremony was in a lake. Did you turn into a princess when the moon hit the lake like the Swan Princess?

I actually am having my niece hold my train, she's 9 and my only niece . Seeing as we can't have a flower girl in the church I asked her to do this. In all honesty she probably won't hold it and be more worried about who's looking at her Lol

    Edit: is this frowned upon??

@Shannon, I wouldn't say it's frowned upon, but it's just........odd to me. I just don't see the purpose. She can't even toss fake petals? Hold a flower ball as she walks down the aisle?

@shannon she's old enough to be a jr BM. My 9 year old is ours, and she's also carrying our rings!

I asked FH awhile ago who should hold the rings and he instantly said the best man. I asked why and he answered with one word. Pockets.

I facepalmed at how obvious it was lol

@LittleDemon how has that thought never crossed my mind?! Since I'm having a man of honor instead of a maid of honor I might give him FH's to hold onto, since he too will have pockets. And give the best man mine.

Lynn right? Of course someone with pockets should hold the rings! It's so obvious after someone points it out!
