Who Is Officiating Your Ceremony?

We're planning on asking my dad and then if he doesnt want to (he tends to be shy) then we'll ask a family friend. We're also thinking of having one of my fiancé's brothers write the ceremony

My sister's husband is clergy and has done lots of weddings. He is helping us create exactly the ceremony we want. We're so grateful what he's doing for us because we didn't have to worry about searching for the "right" officiant 🙂

We wanted to have a friend do it but the county/state we’re getting married in doesn’t allowed people who have been ordained online to officiate weddings. So we hired an officiant who’s allowed to officiate in that area.

We are asking a friend to do it. We love how charismatic he is.

We hired someone. I want a smooth ceremony & I’ve seen and heard of too many train wrecks with people who aren’t a professional trying to do a wedding ceremony. Plus she’s given us great tips and ideas for what we want our ceremony to be like. We basically get to write the entire ceremony with her guidance and she gave us samples of wedding ceremony scripts to give us inspiration. So I’m glad we chose to hire

Either my friend's mom or one of my cousin's

We have a really wonderful woman as our officiant. She's really caring and calm and is happy to accommodate whatever kind of ceremony we need. 😊

My husband's step mom is a judge, so we had her officiate! It was perfect because we had someone with a personal connection to us, but I was always suspicious of "here's a website to get ordained!" And just unsure of the legality of it all.

This. I have been to too many weddings where the officiant either looked like they were in front of a firing squad or were so nonchalant it came off as bored. I, too, fell in love with our officiant after only about 5 minutes of conversation. Made me laugh, sent oodles of ideas and is totally happy to make this tailored to what we want.

I always wanted a big Catholic wedding growing up, but my fiancé wasn't raised in the Catholic Church (just baptized to satisfy a grandmother) and doesn't want a religious ceremony (which is fair) so instead, we are having a close friend of mine who is a judge marry us. He's tailoring the ceremony to be about us, and I am so excited.

Plus it adds an extra special flair that it's him marrying us instead of a priest I don't have a personal relationship with.

He has not as far as I'm aware! But he majored in English and Screenwriting so we'd be in good hands!

Totally makes sense! I agree that if someone isn't good with public speaking or isn't comfortable with leading a formal ceremony, the ceremony won't go as smooth, and it's probably better to find a professional. Awesome that you are putting together the script! What are you including in the ceremony that will highlight the unique parts of your relationship?

Our officiant was our pastor at church who was free LOL thank goodness. an expense i did not need
