Who knew picking a tie color was so hard...

Kristen, on July 16, 2017 at 9:03 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 19

Struggling to pick a tie color for FH and his guys is an understatement. My BMs ordered their dresses from Azazie in the color Cabernet *see below*. Since Azazie also makes ties, my plan was to just have them order their tie in the same color as the dresses. Unfortunately, they don't make men's ties in that color and they apparently never will (I asked a consultant in an online chat and that was the answer I got). I've been looking around in stores but have had zero luck finding a tie that matches. I thought about having them wear a complementary color but I'm not sure what it would be. My BMs bouquets will have greenery and quicksand color roses (think very very light pink), and my decor is simple gold accents. FH and his guys will be in light gray suits. If anyone has suggestions of wear to find a tie in Cabernet or has color suggestions that would match well, it would be much appreciated!

I ordered mine from bowtiemart and am really happy with them. They have lots of shades/colors to choose from and they're REALLY inexpensive.

It's super hard matching colors since computers/cell phones don't accurately reflect the color. You need to see if they'll send you a fabric swatch. Good luck

Their "wine" shade would match well.

They have at least six shades of red and three different maroon/Merlot/wine colors

My bridesmaids are wearing a different style dress in Cabernet from azazie as well and I was having the exact same problem. I chatted with azazie and they said to check out Knottytie.com because they have azazies same color swatches!

My girls are in the same color, just a different designer. The men are in navy with blush ties.

You can probably get pretty close and with the jacket on they won't be next to each other.

I am not a fan of matchy matchy bridesmaids and groomsmen, so we picked a complimentary color for the groomsmen ties. It's a pattern rather than a solid color, which we thought looked better with the dresses. I would just go to Men's Warehouse (or similar), and take a swatch of the bridesmaid dresses (or a dress itself) to compare with their tie colors. That would give you the best idea of what would compliment or even match the dresses. ETA - the consultants at Men's Warehouse (or wherever) should be able to guide you regarding the best complimentary colors.

I got our ties from the the bowsnties website. I ordered several different ones to get the best match.

I am not a fan of matching the tie color to the bridesmaids dress. It reminds me of prom. What color shoes are your guys wearing? I love a gray suit with brown shoes and a navy tie

Matching the mens ties in a solid color to the BM dresses can be a "prom-ish" look.

Why not find a stripe or other pattern with a coordinating color or a smaller amount of burgundy so the color match is not so important?

Can you do gray on gray with the boutonnières having a green and Cabernet element to them?

Something like this except replace the pink with flowers that match the BM dresses?

I think Men's Warehouse has a tie color that matches DB's "Wine" color, which, according to my fabric swatches, matches Azazie's Cabernet pretty much perfectly.

I am using azazie with the same color. I was having a hard time finding a match but found it at Bows-N-Ties. It's an exact match to Cabernet and much cheaper than the company that azazie recommended.

They also don't have to match 1000% because they won't be THAT close together. Obviously you don't want a red and a Cabernet but if you go with one of the wine options shown you should get mighty close and no one will notice.
