Who pays for hair and makeup?

Bethany, on January 21, 2020 at 10:04 PM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 6

So I've seen a TON of posts on here about hair and makeup, but they were all very circumstantial - i.e., paying for specific people, or someone from out of town, or makeup artists being a friend and so on..

My only factors are: the girls have to have their hair and makeup done before arriving at the venue and that it's not in my budget to pay for hair and makeup for my bridal party; which is 5 girls. Our budget is very tight just with the general expenses.. cause weddings literally could not be more expensive in 2020. A lot of forums have read said that if I'm requiring professional hair and makeup that I should pay for it, but I'm not requiring it, I was just going to give them the option. So, I was going to just tell the girls that if they want hair and makeup professionally done I could book the appointment for them or give them pricing of the service I'm hiring to do mine. My other option was to get a headcount of who wants their hair and makeup done and host the prep at my sister in laws house like a little party before, with snacks and things like that that I would clearly provide. But the girls, still being responsible for the actual PAYMENT of the service.

What did y'all do in regards to this matter?

If you're not requiring it, then the girls will pay if they want the service. I'm also not requiring professional hair/makeup, but have let my girls know the cost of the makeup for my artist, so they can choose to use him or not.

I don’t feel like you should have to pay. That’s just my opinion. My girls are paying for their hair and make up. I am providing a specific person for the make up, and for the hair, I showed them the hairstyle that they need to have done. In doing it this way, I tried to select vendors that were affordable!

I also typed up a list of everything they needed to pay for and included it in the bridesmaids proposal boxes so there was no confusion. When someone says yes to be in the wedding, I think they have an understanding that they have to put got a few things.

If you’re okay with them doing their own hair and makeup, then that’s fine. You don’t have to pay for it as long as you’re not requiring it to be done professionally.

You're not requiring it so they pay for it themselves.

I was a bridesmaid in this scenario once, and I really appreciated that we were all able to get ready together with the stylists in the bridal suite instead of somewhere else (especially those of us that came from out of town and were using Uber everywhere). The bride or someone provided breakfast and mimosas, and we paid the stylists on the day.

I gave my bridesmaids and mothers the option of having hair and makeup done by a professional I was hiring. I did not require it, and said they were free to do whatever they felt comfortable with. They all said yes to hair, and they offered to pay for their own. So I am only paying for myself, my trial, and the booking fee.
