Who typically pays for the honeymoon?? I am fortunate enough to have my father pay for the entire wedding with a budget of 75,000 but i do not want to over do it and have him pay for the honeymoon as well. I am very curious to know who typically pays for the honeymoon?

To be fair....most of my venues here are between 150-300 PP. It's pretty easy to get to 75000......

Still, the honeymoon is on the couple.

You and your partner. we did get a couple of (unsolicited!) gifts pertaining to our minimoon at the wedding--friends got us a gift certificate for a restaurant in Chicago where we were staying, and passes for the art museum, stuff like that.

75k! i can't wait to see this BAM, truly...

It is super easy to get to $75,000 in my area and there are a ton of parents that pay that or more for weddings. Unless someone offers you pay for your honeymoon.

I can't believe you're even curious about who pays for the honeymoon. I'm curious to hear who you think should be paying for it.

To be fair, in quite a few areas, $75K is a relatively easy number to get to with 150-200 guests. It's just that most people don't have parents who are willing to foot the entire bill.

    @HisBeauty and @Kate- ohhhh!!

Yeah don't ask, assume your paying.

I can see how it could get to $75,000 really quick in the area I'm getting married in, but damn that's a lot of money

Why would you expect anyone to pay for your honeymoon?

In a lot of areas $75K actually isn't that crazy if you have a guest list of $150+. FH and I are being super reasonable with everything, haven't been splurging on anything, have been getting many quotes for each vendor and have been picking the vendors on the bottom end of the price spectrum of quotes we are getting, are not doing much in terms of decor, are not having a videographer, and it is costing WAYYY more than we expected it to. We are not near $75K but it's very expensive and definitely not going to be a glitz and glam, opulent, designer, over the top wedding.

@HB Honestly it may seem excessive but in my area if you have 200+ guests $75k can get eaten up quickly and you still have to make compromises on things that you want. The hall would take up $50K+ just like that. Personally it is way too close to $100k for my comfort so I get what you are saying

In my area (NYC metro) 75k is not usually anything over the top for a 100-150 person wedding. Average wedding cost in Manhattan is $88k ($630 avg cost per guest). We have budgeted ~55-60k for <100ppl. Averages seem high but it is a very HCOL area.

    eta: Cut off ..

My parents are paying for our wedding, but we originally planned to pay for the honeymoon ourselves. You don't ask someone to pay for anything. We were fortunate enough that FH's family wanted to gift us the honeymoon, but we are paying for things here and there.

@Lynn-There's nothing wrong with your budget or your parents paying for your wedding. However, it's a vacation, you're an adult, you pay for that yourself.

Your parents have 14 kids and pay $75k per wedding. Shit can you ask them what their stock and investment portfolio looks like I might need to piggy back off their life choices lol

And most people here have not been married before. You don't need someone to tell you to pay for your own vacation. If they didn't offer its not part of the package

OP, You don't need to explain why your budget is your budget. As you can see, big budget shaming is alive and well on here. Haters gonna hate.

To answer your question, unless someone offers to pay for your HM, you would pay for it.

@Kate, but maybe she comes from a really wealthy family... what's wrong with stating a fact? Maybe she just wanted to convey that the $75k wasn't a hardship for her family since she was getting so many "OMG I can't believe you would spend that much!!" comments.
