Who Sets Up Diy??

Katie, on February 14, 2021 at 5:44 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 4 15

Hello ladies

I'm considering DIYing my centerpieces and other reception decor. I'm thinking something very simple but still elegant like this

Who Sets Up Diy?? 1

It seems easy enough however who would I have set this up on all the tables the day of? Our venue does Friday weddings so I'm assuming day of is the earliest this could be done. My florist wants to charge $85 per table for this plus a 20% set up, delivery and take down fee is tacked on to the total invoice. That seems super expensive for some candles and greenery. I figure this is easy enough to DIY but the problem I have is who will set this up on the day of the wedding? Obviously me my mom, sister, and my closest friends will be preoccupied with getting ready. I don't really want to ask another family member who is supposed to be a guest to do a job. I don't have a wedding planner but the venue has a day-of coordinator.

If possible I also wanted to DIY other reception decor but again have the issue of who will set up

Check with the coordinator at your venue.
I had a co-worker/friend who volunteered to do the setup for us. A lot of people frown on friendors but it worked out great for us! She isn’t someone who would have been invited as we kept it very small with no co-workers invited.

The day of coordinator may be able to do small things like set up your placecards or signs, but i don't think they'll arrange all of your centerpieces for you since that will take some time and they have other stuff to do (but you can ask). You'll likely have to hire a wedding stylist or another day of coordinator specific for setting up decor. Thumbtack.com would be a good place to look for someone in your area. Also remember that you'll need someone to help take down all your decor when the night is over

Coordinators and planners are not responsible for setting up décor. At best they may do some minor things but they most certainly will not be there to set up centrepieces and arrangements. If you do not have volunteers on hand (family and friends) to help set up the venue, you will need to hire help so it may work out better for you to have someone take care of everything. You should liaise with the venue about this because they will have a set ‘bump in’ and ‘bump out’ time (i.e. our venue bump in starts at 3:30/4pm and our ceremony is at 5:30pm – even if I wanted to DIY, there is no way we would be able to set everything up ourselves in that time and be ready for the wedding).

Usually the day of coordinator does setup. Ones employed by the venue typically only focus on whether you are following venue rules. Confirm that they are able and willing to do this.

Seems strange the florist is charging per table. Not all of them nickel and dime you that way.

That’s a good point I’ll ask about that. I’m trying to decide what is my price for convenience. 15 table centerpieces at $85 each is $1,275 which is so expensive to me!

How else would table centerpieces be priced? Every florist I’ve contacted has given a per centerpiece price.

I'm also looking to do something similar for my centerpieces and my venue confirmed that they'd be setting up the decorations for us. It was a super easy decision for us to DIY it since we're using faux flowers (my mom and FH are allergic to most flowers) and 7.25" and 9" vases are available on Dollar Tree for only $1 each Smiley smile

The price per centerpiece is for the supplies and labor. However, they should not charge extra to place them on the tables.

Try thumbtack.com for florists or diy through fiftyflowers.com for a fraction of that cost.

Do you plan to DIY these with fresh flowers? If so, you'll have to carve out some time in the days right before the wedding.

I am asking my family members to help out. My fiance and I will be helping to set up, but they will have to take care of tear-down/take down on their own, and they are all happy to do so!

I'm also doing a diy wedding. A little background about mine and hopefully it helps you.

I'm American and my husband is Belizean. We are doing a DIY if Belize. After our ceremony the men from both of our families will set up all the chairs and table while the women do the decorations. While this is happening my wedding party, husband and I will go for pictures. During this time since I will have guests I will have the bar open for people waiting. 🤍 Good luck! I also will be doing centerpieces similar to the one you posted 🤍
