Who should escort the bride?

Ellen, on September 29, 2022 at 3:45 PM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 13
I am getting married in November. My father will not be able to attend the ceremony. My son passed away a year ago and I have no other children. My FH has a 11 year old son. We were thinking about asking him to escort me down the aisle. My mother likes the idea but my future MIL hates it and thinks I should just walk by myself. What are your thoughts on this?

You can have whoever you want escort you! Asking your FH's son to escort you is a cool idea. It's your wedding, not your FMIL's wedding, so put what you and your FH want for the wedding above what anyone else wants. You could walk alone, or with your FH's son, or with your mom, or you could have your FH and his son both walk you down the aisle.

I think it's up to you and not your mother-in-law. If you want your step-son to walk down the aisle I say go for it. Don't let others dictate your choice.

Another idea would be to have you and your FH come down the aisle together.

Maybe your mother can walk with you. This could be recognized as the option since your father cannot be there.

If you want to walk with your step-son down the aisle, that’s completely ok.

MIL can’t control you and besides, it’s not hurting or affecting her for you to do that.

This is completely up to you (and whomever you ask). Anyone you want to walk with you OR walking by yourself are valid options. What do you want?

And for future, I would stop discussion wedding planning decisions with people who aren't your future spouse. If you ask for opinions/share details, you are just opening yourself up to all kinds of irrelevant noise.

Totally up to you! Whatever will make you happy. It’s no one else’s decision. I’m personally walking myself

You don't need a male to walk you down the aisle. No one is really "giving away" a grown woman. You can walk yourself, with your Mom, with your FH's son, or walk with whomever you find is a supportive person in your life.

Thank you everyone for your advice. I just needed some encouragement that I was doing the appropriate thing. I talked to my fss today and he has agreed to walk me down the aisle

If your FH doesn't mind or his son that is also a beautiful moment and he may like the idea. And will bring you guys alittle more closer

You can have whoever you want escort you. Mother in law has no say in this as it is not her wedding.
