Who will do a reading at your ceremony?

Jo, on June 7, 2018 at 8:05 AM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 18

Have you asked some special friends or family to do a reading during your ceremony? How did you decide who to ask? How many do you have and what relation to you are they?

Yep. We are having a religious ceremony in our Episcopalian church and we both asked family members who are close to us. I asked my Uncle who is also my Godfather and my children's Godfather and my FH asked his cousin who he has been close to since they were children.

So far one of my FH cousin is going to do a read a poem and my Aunt will do a reading from the Bible. We have not asked them yet. It all depends on what happens with FSIL. Right now FH and his sister are not on good terms, but they are going to therapy together. So if things smooth out and everything is fine we will ask her instead of his cousin.

Nobody. I don't understand people besides the officiant doing anything in the ceremony (and this from someone who has sung at weddings lol)...let your best friend or whomever give a speech at the reception or rehearsal dinner, no stories or readings during ceremony.
    But that is just me!

We asked my uncle/Godfather to do a reading. My DH and I aren't religious, but most of my family is, so to make up for the fact we didn't get married in a church we did a Bible reading (ROMANS 12:9-18) that most fit our relationship and view on the world.

That's what we're trying to decide now. Who will read the prayer and the poem we are having. I'm leaning towards having one person from each side do a reading to keep it fair. It's just trying to figure out who!

I had my sister (maid of honor) do our ceremony reading! We're both pastors kids so she's no stranger to reading upfront. Smiley winking I knew she wouldn't be nervous and that it would be super easy!

My mom's friend is doing the reading and my Bishop may do another. Our ceremony will be short so not a lot of readings.

We kept our wedding party small (1 person each) but, wanted to include our siblings. My brother is definitely doing a reading by George RR Martin. I haven't had a chance to speak with FH's sister (since she is currently living abroad) but, she is coming home soon (I'm probably more excited than FH) and will ask her then.

Oh wow. All the religious ceremonies (mostly Christian) I have been to have had someone else other than the officiant do a reading. In our church even at Sunday services the officiant (priest) does the Gospel but other church members do the readings. When we met with our officiant he asked us specifically who we wanted to do the 2 readings. We are having 2 of our favorite bible passages read, no stories until the reception (LOL). Speaking of singing, now I need to meet with the choir director - thanks for the reminder! Smiley smile

So true right? I am always telling my kids that if everyone liked the same thing, did the same thing, etc this would be a boring world. Smiley smile

No, we are not doing a reading during the ceremony, but we did ask FH's sister to say a prayer before dinner. We're not very religious people, but many of our guests are. (And FSIL is very religious.)

None. I'm not really into readings during weddings and we wanted the ceremony to be straightforward and relatively short.

I've asked my aunt to do a religious reading. It's not a religious ceremony, but we did want something religious included. And I asked my best friend to do something short as well. I suggested to FH that someone from his side do one as well, but he didn't care much.
