Whole Foods for reception flowers - Am I crazy?

Anna, on November 9, 2014 at 10:49 AM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 13

Hey everyone!

After looking into flowers so far, I have been a bit blown away by the enormous costs... I wasn't expecting around $3,000 for flowers! My fiancé and I were thinking about it, and we both love Whole Foods flowers. Since we aren't doing anything too fancy for reception decor (just nice wildflowers on about 15 tables), do you all think it would be crazy to go with them for those, and to use a florist for bouquets/etc.?

We would plan on tasking family friends and one of my aunts with arranging the flowers, so we wouldn't have to worry about a day-of DIY project.

I don't think that's crazy at all, but make sure your family friends are both willing to take on that task and are the reliable type Smiley smile

Nice wildflowers for 15 tables.....at 12 bucks per bouquet (2 per table) you're already looking at over 700 right there without the containers and the labor, and yes, it pretty much has to be a DIY the day before. That is without bouquets, bouts, and any decor.

3000.00 is pretty reasonable for that, and having done my own flowers I can tell you that the headache isn't worth it.

    Not crazy at all.

Talk to Whole Foods, they can probably even order you specific bouquets in the quantity you need.

I don't know if you have a Trader Joes by you but they have very good prices on flowers as well.

Costco has centerpiece flowers we are paying 19.99 for...and they come in a vase and change depending on the season. We are buying some extra bouquets just to use in other places in the reception space...and I ordered my bridal and bridesmaids bouquets at bunches direct. I will let you know how it all turns out in roughly 2 1/2 weeks. Smiley smile

I'm doing all of my own flowers, bouquets, centerpieces etc. Using a florist was not an option for us. We're also using all fake flowers except the centerpieces. You can always look into using grass like fillers instead of all flowers to help eliminate the amount of flowers you order so they can help on cost as well. Also, if you look online sometimes the flowers are cheaper than in the store and better quality. I'm still looking for fresh flowers for the centerpieces myself but only plan on spending $100 for fake for my bouquets, boutonnieres and corsages. As for containers you can get creative with it...seems like you're doing more rustic with the wildflowers? I'm using mason jars and I'm actually having friends and family save them for me. My sister is doing clear wine bottles for her centerpieces.

I'm doing my own flowers, but make sure you have someone talented that can help you (and take over if that's a possibility) My FAuntIL has done flowers at over 20 weddings, so I'm comfortable with her doing my flowers.

I don't think you are crazy at all. I am doing a similar thing. I can't justify spending $3000 or more on flowers for 1 day. So i did alot of research and I am using a wholesale company that is local and my bridal party and I are making it a party while doing all the flowers the day before. I also saved a ton of money buying all my vases at goodwills for less than a dollar a piece. If you don't have a local wholesaler, i found several wholesale flower companies on the internet that even have free over-night shipping to your door and some even have bridal bouquets you can choose from. So, i will be getting thousands of dollars worth of fresh flowers for around $900. Not bad !!!

I used whole foods for my flower girls' bouquets and I was so happy with them!! They came fresh, tied with a ribbon, and so so pretty! They were also wildflowers.

Not crazy at all. I would go to several different grocery stores in your area and get price quotes.

We used grocery store flowers and did everything ourselves. Not stressful - in fact, it was fun.

Check if there's a local Farmer's Market in your area on that day! Ours does amazing wildflower bouquets, for about $10 each. They're gorgeous, with greenery and lots of different colors and sizes of blooms. I've gotten a bunch and no two are alike. Those, with Goodwill/thrifted vases would def save you some money!!
