Who’s in Your Wedding Party?

Personally, I wanted to avoid a bridal party because I didn’t want to deal with the extra stress and drama. My younger sister is being my MOH & Britany best friend is her Best Man. How did you decide who was going to be in your wedding party? How many people are you having? Do you plan to skip...

We each had 5 on our respective sides (which in the South and Texas is apparently “small” lol). I’m an ambivert leaning more toward introvert on the scale, and my husband is super introverted, so having a smaller wedding party was a no brainer to us. My sister was of course MOH as she and I are close. We did include his sister and brother-in-law, but it was more out of family obligation as he’s not very close to her (different values and interests) and therefore I am not to them either. It was still fine having them in the wedding party, and she had to pull out of my Bach Trip so I didn’t have to worry about how she would get along with my 3 other bridesmaids- ladies I met back in middle school. I will say no matter how small you make it, your wedding party is still prone to pre-wedding drama, but if you handle it well, your wedding day will be awesome! Anyone there was drama with put that all away on our wedding day and were amazingly supportive and jumped at the chance to help with anything - and as someone who just prefers to do things all on her own, this touched me 😊

I’m having 6 bridesmaids and my fiancé said he only wants 2 groomsmen. So far don’t have any drama.😅

How nice! ☺️ and I love the long friendships! It’s so good to see people who have been friends for years. My MOH is also an introvert and she said she’s stepping out her comfort zone to be in the wedding and I’m really happy about that.

Oh nice! My sister had her wedding in NV on the lake and it was really nice. Very small and intimate. We enjoyed it.

As we are doing this whole thing on such a low budget (but paying for their dresses/suits) we thought about who we absolutely couldn’t live without having in our parties and went from there.

He is having both his brother and lifelong best friend as his Best Man x 2 lol, and I am having my childhood best friend, my bestie from uni and my little sister. Uneven I know, you would hate it 😉

Hey imani I dont know if I answered this already or not but,it pretty much was a no brainier. I chose my daughters a my sister on my father side so it's only 4 4 on the groomsmen a close friend is his Bestman, his nephew and then 2 sons but 4th one has question mark so this 1 still pending. So it's a family affair

LOL - before I even read the last line I said ‘oh no it’s uneven’ 😆 You know me all too well. How old is your little sister? Is she being a junior bride?

She's 18 so she'll be on the beers with the best of 'em (I'm based in England!), but she still feels like a baby to me with our 9 year age gap!

If budget was no issue I would have pushed for even sides, but as we're paying for the suits it doesn't make sense to pay an extra couple hundred quid just for my partner to choose somebody he doesn't even particularly want as his third groomsmen

That makes a lot of sense though. No need to foot the bill for any extra. So I completely understand. Are you also doing open bar?

No we're not! Even if we could afford it I wouldn't - it just feels like asking for trouble, I would be nervous that people would drink more than they might do if they had to pay for it themselves...Smiley atonished

I'm also getting the venue at a bargain price through my work (the company I work for own the venue so managed to strike a deal with the manager) so I'm keen to ensure everybody behaves well and respects the venue.

I did have a somewhat estranged 'family' member (my ex-step dad who brought me up along with my mum before the Big Fall Out) say that he would like to contribute towards the wedding, this was totally unexpected! He can be a bit flaky though so I'm not counting on it - but if he does come through we will definitely either pay for everybody to have some bubbly on arrival or put some money behind the bar to cover the first drink or two for everyone.

What did you decide re bar?

Oh nice! I’d definitely be fine with either option if I were a guest. We’re doing open bar 😆 but only for 4 hours. I assume once the liquor stops that’s when everyone will leave. So we will see how that works out. Our venue is also all inclusive so the alcohol came with it. We also have security just in case anyone gets out of hand.

We each asked six. My bridal party is my best friend, my sister, my cousin, his sister and his brother's girlfriend, and then one other friend.

Nice! Was it easy to work with 6 women? I’ve always wondered how big parties make it work. It would definitely give me anxiety.
