Who's throwing in a little humor in their ceremony?

Mrs. Turner2B, on March 3, 2010 at 3:53 PM Posted in Planning 0 18

I want my officiant to say "If there's anyone here who thinks Ditmara and Josh should not get married....they don't want to hear it." Smiley smile I just wanna throw a bit of humor into it to get the ceremony started, then we can move into the cheesy stuff. What do you guys think?

The best place for humor is in the wedding charge. But it kind of depends on your officiant. If he or she is not funny, this joke falls very flat and is actually MORE cheesy than just playing it straight.

Yes..I was thinking that as well..I need to find the right officiant who can pull this off. What do you mean the wedding charge though?

I think funny things happen no matter what. There is always a small slip up or mistake and people end up laughing. But I think your idea is cute if the officiant is funny.

When my Dad gave me away he was supposed to hug/kiss me, then shake hands with my husband. But he just went to sit down....so I had to grab him and hug him. Everyone laughed :o)

One of our readings is from Dr Seuss!! I had dreamed it was in the ceremony- and then when I thought about it decided it was perfect (thanks sleeping brain!!) It is "Oh The Places You Will Go". Not conventional and my Brother is reading it- he is a very dramatic person so it will be fab.

The wedding charge is the part of the ceremony when the officiant talks about the couple. Not the vows or formal ceremonious stuff.

We have been joking for years that we want to incorporate some of the princess bride into the ceremony ("wuv, truuuuue wuv!"... but also haven't been able to figure out when to do it!! i'm sure it will come to us, as well as it will come to you, though.

my personal feeling is that you should do what you think is right for you... it is your ceremony and your unique personalities are an important part of the day/ceremony. so if it's what you want, just go for it!!

I think that is super cute and funny. Go for it! Everyone is right though, the officiant needs to be able to pull it off but I'm sure you can find one that will be able to do that just fine.

I love that idea! I think any officiant could pull it off, it would be even funnier coming from a very serious looking officiant.

I agree with everyone else, if you have the right officiant to pull it off, that is a great idea! We are debating whether or not to put any humor into our ceremony. We're both fun-loving people, but we also both feel like the ceremony should be a very reverant thing. I'm fighting for humor, but I don't know that our officiant (his aunt) can pull it off and make it work. I kind of thought about having her say "I now pronounce you husband and Her Royal Majesty" or something silly like that, at the very end, and I would keep it a secret from FH. hehe

@Kim W.: We wanted to include that, too, but couldn't find a spot for it, so the Best Man offered to start his toast with "Marwwage... is what... brings us... togewarh... todaaay..."

Well, I have asked my nieces and nephews what love is, and my sister will read their responses for the ceremony reading, The officant will say "Trindiy & Greg had a hard time defineing love, so they went to the experts. The brides sister will now read what they said" lol you cna already tell there is a HUGE difference in what my 9 year niece siad compared to my 9 year old nephew, my niece siad "Love is marriage, love is kissing, love is flowers and heart box with chocolates and those things" my newohew siad "love is fmaily" lol and my other neohew said "love is hugging your mom"

I would love to add something into the ceremony...some kind of reading or anything but I am afraid since its a Catholic wedding, adding anything woul dmake it too long and boring...what does everything think?

I am suspecting that FH and his buddies are going to don eye patches when I come down the aisle (we'll be on the beach in the Caribbean). I told him they can wear them for that and then they're coming OFF!! I said to him, seriously, I can't just have 15 flipping minutes of seriousness?! His response was, "Do you ever?" Which I don't!
