Why are mirror bases added to centrepieces?

Kemmie, on October 30, 2014 at 12:37 AM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 14

Like what is the benefit? I'm wondering if I should add mirrors to mine.

I've always wondered the same thing. I hope someone has an answer.

I was wondering that too but I assumed that they would reflect the candle light and flowers and look pretty. And make the centre piece stand out from the linens? Hmmm

I'm not a huge fan and did not use any mirrors. I'm sure it depends on what else you are using.

Maybe depth and dimension? Esp if you are having more simple center pieces?

We used them because the venue supplied them and it was included in our rental price. I think it's a depth perception thing. Ours were pretty, but I would not have paid for them I don't think.

It's just an added element. I'm having 2 different centerpieces and one is an old oil lamp that I'm setting on top of a mirror so it reflects the light and glow of the flame. It also makes it a bit heftier instead of looking like I just stuck an oil lamp on the table.

I also think it's just an added element. The only time I seen them was at at wedding where she had really simple centerpieces- 3 cylinder vases with certain flowers submerged in water on each table. I think it just gives it more perception because I don't know how just cylinder vases filled with water would look sitting directly on the table. I never cared for them my self.

Mirrors under centerpieces serve a few functions -- all decorative. Think of mirrored dressing trays covered in beautiful perfume bottles. Anything pretty sitting on a mirror looks great. I've got a collection of decorative ostrich eggs, and all of them sit on small mirrors. Candle flames reflect, giving a prettier look. If you toss crystal pieces around your centerpiece, they will look more substantial because they are reflected in the mirror. Think of the Swarovski stores you've been to; they display the figurines on small circular mirrors because the reflection enhances the crystal. Also, a mirror serves as a frame for your centerpieces. It keeps all of the elements contained (you won't be sweeping away crystals or pushing back votives when you reach for your wine glass).

Our venue requires either the mirror or something solid under the arrangements as it provides a base for them, making it more sturdy. Think of the tall, skinny Eiffel vases...the vase sits on table linens (usually) and that can make it a bit unstable, if someone bumps the table the chances of the arrangement toppling over is less likely when its sitting on a more solid surface.

I think I read somewhere that they make the centerpieces look bigger.

Ok thanks for the info. I never really cared for the look cuz the mirror looks so unfinished. I just though it was cuz candles couldn't go directly on the tables.
