Why are veils soooo expensive?!

loveat1stsite, on October 25, 2009 at 5:12 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 41

So I ordered my wedding gown today Smiley smile yayay!! and I was going to also order a veil from Alfred Angelo as well, but the one I want is $250 and yes, there's a discount but it won't be much less than that..has anyone already ordered their veil from an online store/source instead of going with one that was available by the same manufacturer..the dress is ivory and I know ivory can be in different shades, but is anyone really going to notice? Also, if you have ordered online, where did you order it/how does it look/ did it ultimately match your dress?

I haven't ordered it yet but I plan on ordering my veil from Ultimate Dream Veils, they are here on weddingwire. They have a policy that you can return a veil 5 days after receiving it. I sent in a pic of a veil I liked from a dress store, it was $99 at the store and I got a quote for $55 to make it. Like I said I haven't ordered it yet though so I can't really say how it came out

I spent a fortune on mine so I can't be much help. Although I love mine sometimes I wish I would have waited to get one for less money. The saleswoman put it on with my dress and it looked so nice I just had to get it - she suckered me in lol.

Www.wedding-veil.com I got my veil here and I think I only paid $20-$25 dollars. It was great quality too. I tried on veils at david's bridal to get an idea of what I wanted and then looked on this site for what I wanted. They are great!

You could also try thegreenhangershop.com (on WW, too) or go to bravobride.com (they are like ebay for wedding stuff). Plus, after the wedding you can put your stuff on their and get back some of your expenses. You help mother Earth and your pocketbook. I tell my brides about these two all the time. They have new items every day.

Here's a link to an ebay store that specializes in veils and they're pretty reasonable.

But why are they so expensive? They can be as much as a dress. Just for some tulle?? It is crazy!

Just like with dresses...you pay more for quality of the fabric and quality of the construction...you can definitely tell the difference between veils of different prices...not saying they SHOULD cost a fortune or that you can't have a lovely inexpensive veil....just saying that's where the money goes for the pricier ones, better quality materials, etc....the veil vendors on here could explain I'm sure

You will find veils from $30 (sale price) to $75 to $150 - - all kinds at http://forprincessbride.com/store/page3.html. Many of them are on sale, and the quality is great; make sure to scroll all the way down to see them all. Good luck!

Thank you Laura K - You are exactly correct.

My dream was to make heirloom quality veils and accessories so I have always used high end bridal illusion and silk thread and ribbon, Swarovski crystals, etc. they do make a difference.

One of the other cost factors is the time involved. The silk ribbon edged veil to your left takes 11 yards of silk ribbon that is folded, pressed and stitched on to the enclose the entire edge of the veil. The silk has a very soft drape compared to polyester so the final look is very different.

The other thing - one little rough spot on anything will snag the illusion(not repairable) and you start all over again - so there is no "just whip it up". The less expensive tulle does not snag as easily and poly ribbon is easier to sew on.

There are other factors like metal combs not plastic, real pearls, hand beading and the cut of the veil itself.

If I were getting married again I could not afford many of my veils so I do understand how you feel.cont..

Ok well....I went for my dress fitting last weekend at david's. I didn't have a veil yet. So once I had everything on for the first time the lady put this BEAUTIFUL veil on my head and I started to cry. My mom and dad were speechless. So this was the veil. No one looked at the price.....It was $200!!! OMG!!! I can't believe my parents bought it!!! I owe them So much for this wedding!!!!

I ordered mine online and it was/is beautiful. HOWEVER, when I ordered it it was intended for different dress that I have at the time. But it still worked for the dress I wore on my wedding day. AND it was VERY EXPENSIVE. HOWEVER with that said you can make your own. I found some BEAUTIFUL fabric at a fabric store that I wanted more, but I use the one I had because of the cost.
