Why did you choose your ring? What do you love about it?

So a recent post (which has since been hidden) about someone stating that she picked out her ring to be different than the ring all her friends had sparked this thought.

Did you have a say in your ring, whether by telling your FH what you wanted or picking it out together?

Was having a unique style important to you or did you not care about who else had a similar ring if it was a style that you loved?

What was the part about your ring which made you choose it? or if it was a complete surprise, what do you love about it?

My FH and I picked out my ring together since we were reseting my grandmom's diamond. I didn't have a super specific type of ring that I wanted. I figured I would know when I saw it. I found myself leaning towards split shanks though. When I saw it, I fell in love with the split shank, the unique cut sapphires, and the carvings.

I love that it is so unique but I didn't go into ring searching needing a ring that was different from everyone else's. What about you?

I chose my ring because it reminds me of my g-ma. I get her wedding band, a thin band with channel set stones so it matches the sides of my ring. I just need to get it plated with white gold instead of yellow. I chose this ring, he didn't like it. The one he liked was HUGE, I mean ginormous. I knew that whatever ring I would pick it would have to have the center stones securly placed. We went three times ring shopping and each time this was the one. and still to this day, I see other rings and do not like them as much as my own. I love it.

I told FH that I wanted a brilliant round cut and I didn't care the carat size as long as he chose a quality diamond. I LOVE the ring he got me. It is perfect. I haven't chosen my band yet.

We went ring shopping together. He requested to do this because of a bad experience with his previous wife (she had him design and make a better ring in her eyes thousands of dollars later). It was important to him that we both loved our rings so we looked together. I too wanted rings that was not too traditional. I liked the setting but he picked and mounted the center stone without my input. I didn't see the final ring until he proposed. He chose the matching band but with a satin finish.

I wanted something different. He said I could have whatever I would desire to choose from. We looked at all the diamonds and I am just not a fan of them. I looked at blue diamonds at first, but I love the sapphires better. I found this ring eventually and feel in love with it and we end up getting it.

For my e-ring I picked out a few designs with my mom, making sure she knew my absolute favorite. My FH took my mom shopping with him and he happened to pick my favorite. I loved the setting so much because its not just a solitaire, its also got an enhancer that makes the ring!

I picked out my wedding band with the help of my FH and he picked out his own.

Tom (my FH) picked this out all on his own with absolutely no help from me Smiley smile He got it custom made and apparently went into the jewelry store everyday for a couple months to get ideas! (All the guys knew him in there haha). It's a round cut diamond with 20 pave set diamonds on either side in platinum. I could not imagine a more perfect ring - he knows me so well. love him!!! haha

DH picked my e-ring. He knew I didn't like solitaires and liked the 3 stone rings for the past, present and future meaning.

My finance proposed while we were on a vacation in Monterey California and it was just a beautiful occasion by the ocean! He knew me so well that he didn’t have a ring, his intention was us hunting for the perfect ring while we were on vacation. We spent a day looking for something I loved… the very last art gallery we walked in to had just what I was looking for. I have a ceramic ring made by an artist whom mines for his own materials in Australia and comes back to the US to make his jewelry. My engagement ring has no diamonds but that is just so me… I have the white one in the picture and the thinnest one they make... also had mine made with flat sides... my wedding band is the same width as my engagement band and they sit next to each other. For our anniversaries I will be getting more colors of my engagement ring, they come in black, pink, blue, green and brown I believe... Not many people can handle my engagement ring… its just to non-trad for most… BUT I love it.

FH picked out the ring all by himself. I did not say anything at all. He likes the look of yellow gold better than white gold. He picked a smaller diamond because he never saw me wear any rings and thought I would get annoyed by a big diamond. Although I would have pocked a ring like Kris's, I love the one FH picked out for me. He bought the set, so i already have a wedding band. One of my friends was having a hard time finding a wedding band that went with her engagement ring and FH didn't want to have a similar problem.

I knew I wanted something different with some sapphire or some color in there. I did want a radiant or cushion diamond, so the round was a surprise, FH thought it was the biggest and most sparkly of the cuts.

My wedding ring will match, I can't wait to wear them both!

MY FH designed the ring with a friend who is a certified gemologist and master jeweler. FH knew what types of things I liked, and that I wanted a very feminine, almost whimsical ring. I love it so much and I love that he took the time to sit with someone to figure out what worked and didn't.

I had nothing to do with picking out my e-ring. I wasn't even sure when FH was going to propose so the whole thing was a wonderful surprise. I had always said I wanted an estate piece because they're usually unique, but FH said all the rings he was finding were either tacky or too expensive (I felt very strongly about him not spending a ridiculous amount of money on a ring). He wound up picking out the perfect ring for me - very similar to Mrs. Clark's. I couldn't be happier with it!

My wedding band is just a plain, white gold band. I didn't want to detract from the diamonds on the e-ring, plus I wanted a wedding band I could wear anywhere (including hiking) without worrying about banging it up or getting mugged.

The pics are from the jeweler's website because my cell phone pictures don't do it justice. (Holy crap, the pics are huge. Sorry).

I wanted a simple square princess cut diamond. When I went to look, I saw the gorgeous wedding bands with the greek key design. Which look amazing with my square diamond. The diamond is almost exactly the same size as the key design. Anyhoo, we looked in to what a greek key design means on a wedding ring, and it's supposed to represent life as a meandering river, with no beginning or end, and how a couple will navigate this winding, never ending journey together. That sealed the deal. After we ordered them, since they were custom made, we found out that even though the store we bought at has chains in over 40 states, they had never sold this set of rings before, so they are perfect to describe our relationship, and unique as well. Can't wait to wear them.

S3, I didn't want him spending too much on mine either. This may be controlling but I kind of gave him a price to stay under, the reason being I didn't want to feel guilty or greedy. My band is a 1kar. channel band. Got it so that if I wear it solo, I still have some bling and we got it at a huge discount.

So he asked, "what about this one?" i saw it and gleamed. I asked to try it on. He took a picture of me trying it on. I fell in love with it. =]

My e-ring was a total and complete surprise. I had told my DH years before the proposal about my total dislike for diamonds, and that if I were to ever get engaged I would want an emerald. Emerald is my favorite gemstone, my birthstone (DH's as well), and I feel has always been lucky for me. My DH sent me into shock and made me completely speechless when he presented me with an emerald for my e-ring! My wedding ring is just a simple white gold band - something I can wear everyday, doing everything.

I don't have a pic of my ring yet as it is still in the layaway and I didn't take a pic b/c I know me and I would have spoiled the impact suprirse by showing thep icture to everyone lol. Anyway, we picked it out together becaue FH wouldn't go on his own becaue he wanted to get something he knew I'd like BUT I thought we would never get a ring because we could never agree on a style. I wanted something nice but simple and he wanted something he could be proud of. Finally we found something that suited us oth. I CAN'T WAIT FOR HIM TO FINISH PAYING ON IT! lol
