Why did you choose your ring? What do you love about it?

So a recent post (which has since been hidden) about someone stating that she picked out her ring to be different than the ring all her friends had sparked this thought.

Did you have a say in your ring, whether by telling your FH what you wanted or picking it out together?

Was having a unique style important to you or did you not care about who else had a similar ring if it was a style that you loved?

What was the part about your ring which made you choose it? or if it was a complete surprise, what do you love about it?

My FH and I picked out my ring together since we were reseting my grandmom's diamond. I didn't have a super specific type of ring that I wanted. I figured I would know when I saw it. I found myself leaning towards split shanks though. When I saw it, I fell in love with the split shank, the unique cut sapphires, and the carvings.

I love that it is so unique but I didn't go into ring searching needing a ring that was different from everyone else's. What about you?

We started browsing together one afternoon when my daughter wanted to go to the mall. Then one of the stores was having an event so I made an appointment so we could browse more. As we were looking and trying to get the sales person to understand what I liked and wanted, he would say - oh she won't like that or will like this. Then all of the sudden he was in front of a case and he said, I found it. And he had - it was actually more than I wanted as it has brilliant cuts on the side and the center is raised a bit more that I originally wanted. I also wanted all princess cuts - but I loved the look of the princess center and brilliant rounds so much. We also got the wedding band at the same time as it is princess sapphires (blue and silver are our colors) with the same brilliant round diamonds. It is perfect because it matches the e ring so well plus does not cover up the side diamonds. At the end - he said - see I do pay attention to what you liked and wanted!

My FH designed my e-ring all by himself and I totally love it to pieces!! I love the round cut diamond that sits up in the center and then it has diamonds going down all the sides and the most beautiful engraving on all sides after the diamonds stop. We actually just picked up our wedding bands last week and I love them too - FH's ring is amazing the jeweler said its the nicest ring she has ever seen. My band matches my e-ring with the diamonds and the engraving (I will have 2 bands).

Ashley, I absolutely LOVE your FH's ring. I'm such a sucker for carvings though (as seen by the amount covering my e-ring and band).

FH did it without help from anyone. I had no idea he was going to propose. It's a solitare Ideal, Ideal Cut Diamond. I love it. He spent hours in several stores browsing diamonds. He chose the diamond first, then the setting.

We picked out my wedding band together. It looks magnificent with my e-ring. I don't have a pic of my wedding band because it's in a safe at my parents house (500 miles away) waiting for our wedding day. My wedding band looks very similar to the pic I posted.

I picked mine out with FH.

I knew i didn't want a diamond. Nothing against them- but i wanted something different.

I was thinking a black or red stone for a while, but i wear other rings that have very dark purple and blue stones- i wanted my e-ring to stand out.

When we where first looking I wanted a square cut with a halo and double bands coming out of the corners, instead of a single band in the middle. We found one that was beautiful, but i just wasn't sure. I'm normally not a "bling" type person.

My FH pointed out the band/ring set in the case and I didn't really like it- but tried it one to humor him. He though it matched the style of my other rings, while still being special. Said it reminded him of the elves on LOTR, lol.

Well once I put it on i really like it as much as the other one. It was a hard choice, but FH is right, it matches me more then the blingy one. i do want to get a more bling looking band instead of just keeping the band it came with.

My FH ended up having to purchase two rings for me. The first ring he bought was huge (I'm guessing three carats) topaz spit shank ring with small diamonds on the band. I don't have a picture of it on my computer. Anyway, my fingers are really tiny, and we had previously talked about rings in general and I had ball parked my finger as a size 4. Well that is the size he bought me. I loved the ring, it is so pretty and was different like I wanted. I had been wearing it for about a month when I was at a football game and was dusting some powdered sugar off my lap from a funnel cake when the ring went flying off my hand! Luckily it landed only a few feet away but I was freaked out after that.

We asked a jeweler about getting it sized down but was told it couldn't be done. I tried the various sizing adjusters but non of them were comfortable. We then looked around on ebay and I found my wedding set. It isn't really old, but it isn't new. The listing claimed it was from the 60's

I love it, just different enough. Everyone's rings are gorgeous, but future Mrs. Ohler, I've loved your ring for a long time. I love that it is your grandmothers diamond and the sapphires and carvings are just so pretty.

I dug the photos of my original ring off my phone. I still wear it, just on my right hand now. These photos don't do it any justice.

NicNac W. I feel your pain of having small fingers (your ring is so pretty & unique btw) ... I am a size 3 1/4 - When FH proposed he got the ring in a size 5 b/c he went by my twin sisters ring size - I was so afraid to wear it until we got it sized b/c it would just slip off my hand.

FutureMrsOhler - Thank you, I love engraving on rings too & I am totally in love with yours - They are beautiful Smiley smile

I didn't really have any say in my ring. FH knew I liked princess cut and he knew that I liked halos.. we never ring shopped together so I didn't have any official input. Although, once while shopping with his mom I pointed out a ring I "liked".. she some how got the information to FH. He went and looked at it and decided that he didn't like it.. instead he had my ring designed and made for me! I love it! I don't have a band yet, but it will match the halo/diamond patter on either side of the solitaire.

GREAT POST!! A long time ago before FH and i had even met i saw an aqua marine ring at macys and fell in love with it and always said that was the ering i wanted. met FH and aqua marine just happens to be his birth stone (coincidence?? i think not lol) but when we went looking for erings we couldnt find ANYTHING that was close to it. we found a lot of rings with other gemstones but it would cost more than it would be worth to switch the stones out, the same with custom making the ring. i was heart broken for a really long time about it bc i never thought we would find it. then we went to a ring show at Helzburg and they couldnt make the ring i wanted but they put this other ring on my finger and it was like the heavens opened up and i herd angels singing!!!! i fell in love instantly and KNEW this was my ring! it was also a set with the band (originally i had just wanted an ering, no band but this one fit perfectly as a set and looked amazing). cont

It was 2k over budget (our budget of $500.00 dollars, the cost of the other exact rings with the different gems) but FH got it anyway it i love it almost as i love him and my puppy. it is so beautiful and the princess ring i always wanted!! the kicker to the story is about a year after we got engaged we started seeing all kinds of aqua marine rings that would have matched my original dream ring!! but i wouldnt trade mine for the world Smiley smile

Ashley S. My finger is 3 1/2. I couldn't believe it was so small. When we bought that ring it was originally a 5 also, luckily we were able to size for fairly cheap.

Well, i forgot to post my complete wedding set last night. I still have to get the outside bands sized bc my grandmother was so friggin tiny. My mom never wore the outside bands, she thought they were too much~but I think they are stunning. The pic to my ering and the story is on pg 1 :-)

    I love ring posts :-)

We designed all our rings. I wanted a ring that is different. The ering pic is not the best but that's all I've got at work. The second pic is our bands.
