Why Did You Choose Your Venue?

Zherr-Anne, on December 3, 2012 at 6:22 PM Posted in Planning 0 46

I'm a Hospitality Management student who's doing a project on venues. I'd love to know what was your #1 priority in choosing your reception venue.

Was it the price? The packages they offered? The amount of space they had? Any kind of answer helps! Also what was your budget on your venue plus your overall budget in general?

Please include the size of your wedding as well.

Thank you!!

Pricing, food, venue size, decor. I'm having at least 125 people. Our budget is $20,000, but we'll probably wind up spending more. NYC is not cheap, unfortunately.

We had a DW weekend in VT for 62 people. We chose our venue specifically because we have stayed there for the last 5 yrs. The owners are like family. One the owners married us. We wanted to be married in a place we loved surrounded by people we loved. We only considered this venue.

We provided dinner/booze on Fri. We brought Italian sandwich style dinner in from Philly. We had karoke to break the ice. Guests received welcome bags.

For the recept on Sat night, we hired a caterer & DOC. We provided dinner/booze/DJ all night. We had stationary appies; an Italian buffet; Italian pastry table; candy bar; wedding & groom's cake.

Total cost w/honeymoon but no jewelry was $12K

My daughter's number one priority when picking her venue was to have her reception with a hotel, but not a hotel banquet hall with low ceilings inside a hotel. She wanted something that had old world charm and elegance. She wanted an all inclusive. The Mendenhall Inn's Grand Ballroom fit the bill perfectly for her Secret Garden themed wedding.

Her venue was $140 a plate. It pretty much included everything: all custom centerpieces, linens, chair covers; wedding cake; 5 hr prem open bar w/ signature drink; custom wedding cake; cocktail hour that included about 13 diff appies(including sushi & lamb chops) & a crab station & pasta station; tableside wine service; champagne toast; 4 course plated meal choice of filet or flounder stuffed w/crab; & a viennese table. The cost included a DOC. She had 150 guests. The total cost not including any rings or honeymoon was about $37K. This was slightly above($2K) the average for Delaware County, PA.

The beauty of the venue. The price. The packages they offered. The flexability of being able to choose to use their photographer, DJ, baker..etc., or to bring in our own.

Choose because its my families favorite winery to visit. Our wedding is 150 people budget for venue was 5000$ they include all tables and chairs they provide a server for wine and beer they also provide us ample time day of wedding for set up and the day before. For us it wouldn't have mattered we choose it because we loved and would have made the cost work no matter what.

Because it is massive, and I can literally do ANYTHING I want with it. It's an old hardware store in downtown Milwaukee, huge vaulted ceilings, tons of floor space pillars, large picture windows. Price for the venue is per hour, and it has security and great insurance. And I love the designer! And I can choose everything, from vendors to lighting sound dj, it can be all DIY or I can pay someone to do it all. It's really just perfect for us and our 350 person party!

Price, location, wanted outdoor ceremony and indoor reception at same location; areas to take pictures with surrounding mountains, sunset. Having about 65 people. Budget is $7500 and venue, including food/alcohol, is just over half of that budget.

We are limited on where to have it. The dream place I wanted was A) booked for the date I wanted. B) smelled due to only being in use for parties.

We booked because price was right, the color scheme worked well with my colors. It could hold all 200 + guest for us. And it was convenient.

My #1 venue requirement was that the ceremony and receptions sites were in either 2 different rooms, or the room could be transformed during cocktail hour. Next came decor, size, and date availability. Cost is up there, but we knew we were limited when looking on the North Shore (Boston),but did not want ocean view, so we just compared venues as we went along.

Excellent food, ambience, and price. I also like a venue that offers things like linens and furniture in the package so I wouldn't have to scramble to find these things and coordinate it all. I'd be willing to go a little off the beaten path in terms of location and if I found the perfect venue, I would downsize my guest list a bit to be able to host the party there.

Beauty, price, and location...and the freedom of decorating, where we could have the ceremony, etc.

We chose our venue because not only was the price right, it is a historic wooden lodge right on a lake and the view is going to he amazing in the fall when we get married. The location is also great - the furthest anybody will have to travel is about 45 minutes or so (literally maybe 15 people on the guest list, the remainder of our guests are about 10 to 20 minutes from the location) Our budget is in between $7,000.00 to $10,000.00 and we are inviting around 150 or so guests.

    We had three different venues:

    * When we first got engaged, we decided to have a Jewish wedding. We had a lot of trouble finding a rabbi willing to do an interfaith wedding. (Interestingly, it was no problem at all to find one willing to do a same-sex wedding.) When we found the rabbi, we looked at his synagogue and loved it! The congregation had met in members' homes before getting its own building, and had deliberately had the synagogue built to have a home-like atmosphere. It was small enough not to overwhelm our tiny ceremony (just a dozen guests). It also had a gorgeous back garden overlooking a lake. We used it as our ceremony venue, even though the price ($1,500) was a real splurge for us.

    * We had a lot of Legal Sea Foods gift cards, and we knew our guests love seafood. So we picked the Legal Sea Foods closest to the synagogue for the luncheon. The only cost was a 2% surcharge on food and drink for using the private dining room.

    * For the at-home reception, a friend offered us the use of a private club he owned at a very favorable rate ($750). It was centrally located, and all our friends knew where it was. It had enough space so we could invite all our friends. It had facilities like a kitchen, a shower, a dance floor, a sound system, and televisions to play our wedding video. The owner allowed us to come in two days early to decorate however we wanted. He allowed us to hire a friend to do the food, instead of requiring a licensed caterer. And he gave us an open bar for 60 people for five hours for $250. We really didn't consider anywhere else.

    Total wedding budget was $10,000.

We chose our venue because it is absolutely beautiful! We visited many places trying to find that perfect one. It's also a plus that it was mostly all-inclusive and since we are planning from out of state it made it a lot easier!

We chose our venue because the price was right (plated dinner, appetizer cocktail hour, beer/wine, all other beverages) and holds about 110 people (we want to keep it small and I can use that excuse ot keep it small) with an outdoor ceremony indoor reception. It is a golf course and FH liked the idea b/c it's not a banquet hall or hotel. I love that we have the whole place to ourselves and that we can have it for as long as we want (though we aren't going to have a long reception).

Since we got married in my hometown we had limited options for where our reception was since we wanted to get married in summer or early fall 2012. The place we ended up at, the local country club worked out great. It has beautiful views of the golf course and river valley, the chef does amazing food and we could bring in our own booze and decorate it for our style. We didn't really have a set budget since my parents paid for most of it. Not including rings or honeymoon our wedding came in around $28,000 Canadian for 135 people.

We chose our venue based on it's reputation - as a beautiful, historic full-service destination wedding venue that serves high quality food. We have flexibility to have our ceremony outside in the gazebo if weather allows, but a beautiful room is available in case of rain. There are several options as to location for the reception including an outdoor tent, inside ballrooms of various sizes or a large barn-style banquet room. Having on-site wedding consultants was a big plus as we are planning from a distance.

We are expecting approx 40 people and we are hoping to keep our budget under $5000 for venue related expenses - $7500 total for the wedding

There a few reasons why we went with the venue we selected. For one, it’s smack dab in the middle of our families. The price was unbeatable and played a large part in the selection of the venue. It’s all inclusive. I’m not the DIY type. I’m not crafty. So we were looking for something all inclusive, and we found it in this venue. So location, price, and all-inclusive were on our priority list.

We'd like to keep the cost of the wedding (wedding day, honeymoon, rings, etc.) everything… under a 15k-20k budget. 15k on the low end, and 20k on the high end. Our venue will probably end up costing us around 9k when all is said and done. But that includes ceremony and reception location, appetizers, main course, alcohol, center pieces, flowers, tables, chairs, linens, dance floor, etc… pretty much everything. We are planning on having around 100 people at our wedding.
