Why do I feel offended when

I feel offended when people make comments about the size of my ring too. I have a karat and a half pear shaped diamond. People have literally grabbed my hand and said, "That can't be real. How much did it cost? He couldn't have afforded that?!?!" Yes. It's real. And our money is none of your business. I avoid using my left hand, and when I do I make sure it's not pointing at anyone.

I think people think they have to say something, but they are not good at it, sometimes!

Recently, an acquaintance grabbed my hand and said, "Look how little.... your fingers are!" Nice save, lady!

@Alexis, first off, you're my date twin! I just don't understand people sometimes. I'm sure they're all not trying to be rude, well except in your case. I can't believe people actually said that to you! I mean, I tried all those gawdy rings, but it's just not my personality. Bigger isn't always better!

I've decided people are just incredibly rude...people will grab my hand and ask me if my ring is real too (it's a different-colored stone, so I get that it doesn't look like a traditional diamond, because that's not what I wanted). I always want to answer, "well, it's not pretend!" Anyway, just smile and let it go. Most people have no idea how they come off to you. It's that self-involved thing.

My ring is an heirloom and I don't think it's gawdy, but ummmmmm.... Thanks? Lol

@CharDel, yea that's true. I don't know. I know for me, that when someone shows me their ring, I say how beautiful it is, even if I personally don't like it. I guess that's just me lol.. omg no way!! Very nice save!

Just accept "it's cute" as a compliment graciously and respond "Thanks, I just love it". If the ring is not meant to impress other people, why do you care what they think? You said you picked the ring because it's classic and simple. As long as you're happy with it, it doesn't matter what adjectives other people use to describe it. Remember who gave it to you and why and that should be enough for you to turn a deaf ear to the "cute" remarks.

@Double, yea that's true. We all have different tastes and when it's their turn, they can choose whatever ring they want. I'm glad I'm not alone in this!

@Alexis, sorry lol I can see how you thought I was talking about your ring when I said I tried on "gawdy rings. " I wasn't. I was just saying, in general, how I tried on gawdy rings (not comparing them to yours or anything). Sorry for the confusion twin!

I think this is a good place to share pics on ring porn threads! Then everyone can ooh and ahh.

I haven't done it yet because I don't like my hands in any current photos I have.

@Karebear, that's exactly what I do. You're right, it's not, and I do love it. I guess, I was just looking for different responses. Not sure why, since I do love my ring, and the man that gave it to me.

I got some "oh that's cute" comments too. I just always responded with "isn't it beautiful? I love it!". People stopped calling it cute. lol

Alexis - I love heirloom rings! They have so much personality and history!

I think its like anything else in life, its what stages we are all in. Someone that has been married and has moved on to having children is probably over the whole excitement of wedding pictures, rings, etc etc. As long as you love it, wear it loud and proud!

Lol I totally get what you mean... I hate showing my ring... I have an "aunt" (uncles gf) who always comments on how big it is... I get quite embarrassed

Sometimes there are threads where everyone post pictures of their rings! I love looking at them but have never posted a photo yet.

My favorite comment is "well he can buy you a bigger diamond in the future" like what?? Why would you say that

Some people have no class. You love it and that's all that matters.
