Why do I even have to get my groomsmen gifts?

Shalott, on May 24, 2016 at 10:15 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 11

FH can't wrap his head around the concept and thinks I'm being frivolous for wanting to thank the bridal party with a gift. I've tried explaining it a million different ways but we just can't see eye to eye for some reason.

Does anyone else find themselves in a similar situation? I don't know what to do!

My FH is slacking on doing his. I try to put it in money terms. How much does GM make per hour? Now how many hours does he have to spend at the ceremony, rehearsal, bachelor party, etc? Then are they traveling, getting a hotel, eating out etc? That's how much your GM is putting into this. A shooter of whiskey is a small thank you for that kind of commitment.

It would be pretty rude not to thank the bridal party in my opinion! Just tell him that it's proper etiquette to give them a small gift in appreciation for them being a part of your special day!

@gryffinBride I've seen you post so much in the forums and I'm just NOW realizing your name is Gryffin and not Gryffindor. I nerded out every time I saw your screen name. But also, yes. Good advice!

Yes they deserve a gift because they spend money on bachelor parties, renting tuxes/suits, possibly time off and travel. Show them you appreciate them.

Ha ha! My FH is the opposite! He's looking left and right to find stuff for his guys. At first he thought it was stupid but then I bought his guys beer pilsners for the "Will you be my groomsman?" Gift and introduced FH to Etsy and now he's hooked lol

My FH's GM are his brothers and his two childhood best friends, and I innocently told him to shop for them like it was their birthdays. I forgot that these guys tend to use birthdays to buy each other the most cringeworthy, embarrassing gifts ever. Luckily, I was able to clarify!

My FH had the same reaction when I told him he needed to get his groomsmen gifts!!

That being said after I explained why he should he agreed that he would do something.

I've asked FH what he wants to get them. He has no clue and is very bad at choosing gifts... Except toys for kids. I've showed him a few ideas from Etsy and even found things that we could put together ourselves.

Also, he didn't take any convincing. He's been in three weddings and I've been in 6. He knows the bridal party received gifts.
