Why do I feel offended when

Someone says my engagement ring is "cute"? I'm not big on flashy diamonds, so the ring I picked for my engagement ring is more classic and simple. I love it, but the more and more people that call it "cute" makes me feel kind of bad, like I don't want to show it off. A puppy is cute. I don't want to...

I guess I was just looking for different responses? Ahhh I don't know...

Oh geez, people are ridiculous. I get "oh wow, that so....unique..." Which they might actually mean, or it's just they don't like it lol. Mine is a different style than the very popular thin band halo that many people like now, so I just brush it off. We love our rings, so let's just rock them!! Smiley smile

It is really annoying, but I'd just ignore it and stand by your beautiful ring. One person actually said that my ring looks kind of like a class ring or a school ring and I was like WHA???!!! But my ring is gorgeous and they are dumb.

I've gotten "that's... cute" comments about my 1/2 ct solitaire. But always from women who are either a) single or b) in shitty, miserable marriages. So...whatever, haters.

After I got engaged, the first time I went home, my brother said "It's so small" (in his defense, he was 19 at the time). My mom turned to him and said "well, that's what happens when you get engaged while you're still in college". Um, thanks? The funny thing is that last week, she read some study and told me that it's good my ring is small because the smaller the diamond the more likely your marriage is to last (?). I don't think my ring is that small, but I also couldn't justify spending a lot of money on a ring when we were both in college. (I still can't). Just try to brush it off and embrace that you love your ring.

Who knows why people say what they say? before my wedding a woman asked me what my dress was going to be like and I just mentioned how it was silk, and I think I mentioned there was no train.

next thing I know she's going on about how it is best for me to wear something simple! that it was the best choice for a 'older woman' I was 43, not 63!

I just kind of smiled and laughed to myself. should have seen the look on her face when I walked down the aisle in a silk ball gown with lace motifs embellished in pearls and crystals- not to mention the cathedral veil with lace trim- that lace trim had pearls and crystals too. I guess she thought I should walk down the aisle in suit or something.

after the wedding she looked quite shocked and said 'I thought you were going to wear a simple dress!' she got some looks with raised eyebrows when I responded with 'no, that's what you told me I should wear, I just never corrected you! Simple would never have fit my personality.'

I'm sure she meant well, but I still felt judged when she told me what I should wear. I still shake my head that she brought it up at the wedding. what was she telling me that my dress was wrong or bad or something? not very nice, and I think others agreed!

just tell yourself 'what can you do with people?'

oh, and btw- I've actually had someone at one point tell me that I should get my ring checked to make sure it was a real diamond! trust me, it had been tested, I was there when it was purchased! talk about no class! sheesh! edit for add on

My favorite so far was from my FMIL. When we went over to their house to tell them we got engaged she grabbed my left hand, then looked at FH and said "you spent too much" and stalked out to the garage. At least FFIL and FSIL (she was there for something) were excited.

As long as you like your ring why do you care? Small diamonds, big diamonds, different stones... All are pretty as long as the wearer is happy. What I hate is when I see pictures of rings and they're too tight. It looks uncomfortable and bad... All I see is "too tight" and can't look at the ring.

Dang I think I have to think more of my words then... I use cute, pretty, and lovely interchangeably. Now I feel bad that people may have been offended at my incorrect use of adjectives

I've gotten that too- cute & dainty. The worst was one of FH's weird uncles told me that he needed to grab his magnifying glass. FH is a no-funny-business kind of guy... he snapped back that it's worth more than his car is right now. Gotta love his honesty.

Small diamonds, big diamonds, no diamond at all. Our rings are as unique as we are. Brush off the comments and remember what the ring represents.

I get the cute comments too. I feel self conscious showing off my ring most of the time. Here is my ring:

I sometimes feel the same way. My cousin got engaged a few months after I did and her ring is bigger and I'm worried when I see that side of the family they are going to make a comment like that. I have small fingers, I'm tiny so I didn't want a diamond that overpowered my hand. I love my ring especially when it catches the light.

That is so rude of people. I kind of agree that calling someone's engagement ring cute is rude. People look at mine and say "oh that's an engagement ring?" They don't think it's an engagement ring because it's a sapphire. Mind you my ring is a 1 karat Salon sapphire with another 1 karat of diamonds on the band. But hey if it's not a diamond it must not be an engagement ring. Right?

Yup, I've gotten the "cute" comment too. A nail lady said "Oh so cute. So little," really lady? Also people assume we're poor. I have a 1/2 Karat solitaire. FH actually still spent over $3K on it because he got a platinum band and a really good diamond, but people just look at the size and say "cute" and think "budget." Yes we're on a budget, but a few stores we've gone into for wedding rings think because I don't have a giant rock like everyone else in NJ that we're poor. Before I even tell them our budget, if I see something I like they'll just be like 'that's expensive" Excuse me, did I tell you our budget yet? Rude. I did go into one shop and the women said "Ooh! You're lucky, that'll go with everything!" I liked her Smiley smile
