Hey everyone! I’m in need of major advice and someone to listen. I just had my second makeup trial for my wedding and I have come to the conclusion that I just look bad in bridal makeup. Now for the details. I wear makeup daily- foundation, concealer, bronzer, mascara, lipliner, highlight, brows etc. I guess by this point I just do my makeup in a way that I am very accustomed to and truly like the way I look when I do it. For both my trials I have stressed that I still want to look decently natural just amped up a bit. Both times I have been left looking like a clown (in my opinion) and I just feel like I look dirty and not soft and beautiful like I always see bridal makeup being. I know it is expected to be heavier so it shows up in photos and lasts all day but I look so bad in person!

I guess I am looking to see if this is normal for brides to feel after their trials. Also it seems like everyone discourages doing your own wedding makeup- is it really a bad idea? I think I would be just fine- my only concern is how it would wear if I cry.
I attached some photos of my makeup normally and how it looked after my most recent trial. Please let me know what you think- anything helps as I don’t have anyone to discuss with other than my FH haha!cfb_1550421.jpg

I actually don’t think it looks clownish at all! It might just be that you’re not used to seeing yourself that way, so something feels “off” or “different” and you don’t quite recognize yourself. I think the makeup looks gorgeous on you! It’s more important that you feel comfortable though. If that means a more subtle look that is similar to your daily makeup, then go with that! You’re beautiful either way. Truly!

Bridal makeup tends to feel heavier and look more prominent than regular makeup. This is to help it hold up to camera flashes, spotlights, etc. that can often wash people out. You'll also want it to last all day, hold up to any potential tears, survive hugs and kisses, etc. I don't think your trial looks too different from your own makeup, just a bit darker. The lip finish your MUA used is also a matte, which tends to be the finish of choice since gloss can give off more shine/ reflection and doesn't tend to last as long.

Totally your call if you want to do your own makeup on the big day. Personally, I had a million things going through my head, and it was nice to just be able to sit back, relax, and let someone else handle my face for me.

I did my own makeup! (mostly because I didn't have the money to pay to get it done, but I'm pretty good at it, so . . . )
