Why do you need to bring marriage license at wedding rehearsal?

Bella32, on June 5, 2021 at 11:44 AM Posted in Planning 0 9
Where I'm doing my wedding ceremony the wedding coordinator is asking instead of bringing it on the wedding day I would need to bring it to the wedding rehearsal why is that?

Our officiant asked the same of us; she filled it out and signed it at our rehearsal. Honestly, it was one less to worry about on wedding day, you will have enough things to remember! So long as your wedding date is correct it really doesn't matter when it is signed.

My guess is he/she wants to make sure you don't forget it. There's a LOT going on on your wedding day and this would be just one more thing to remember.

So you don’t forget it on wedding day! I forgot mine for the rehearsal and almost forgot it wedding day. My mom had to go back and get it.

What if you don't bring it at all for example. Would that prevent you from having the church ceremony?

You could have the ceremony but then you're not legally married without the license.

My guess is because it will be completely forgotten about in the getting ready the morning of chaos.

At my church yes. Without it you can’t get married.

Some churches will do it as a commitment ceremony rather than wedding ceremony but you won't be pronounced as husband and wife. It is a misdemeanor to marry a couple without the license and officiant can lose their job (also as stated by Michelle in your other post). The date your license gets signed is your true wedding date.

They probably know ur mind will be in 10 dif places that day so bringing it on a less stressful day will make sure it's not forgotten. It will probably be the last thing on ur mind on ur wedding day between getting ready, pictures and everything else. My friend just recently got married and they had to have their licenses at their rehearsal.
