Why does everything I say seem to come out twisted and all wrong

MrsD2011, on March 19, 2011 at 12:04 AM Posted in Community Conversations 0 7

Ugh so my entire life, I've had this horrible case of insert foot into mouth ... and am always saying things that sound good in my head, nice even but come out sounding like I'm some type of Monster .... LOL

For example, I said to my Mom, the other night, "No you don't get a lot of say in this wedding, you simply take John's and my ideas, and go with them and write the check ... which now reflecting back on it, sounds horribly mean and rotten and bridezillaish, when I was trying to get across, no it's an eqaul partenership, FS and I get and my mom and dad's and his parents ideas wel all take and mold them together to come up with our idea ...

And then I told my FS, yes I was dissapointed you went out with your friend after I left the bar last night with my bro in tow and it came out all like controlling and then the things I say to my friends, when something is horirbly wrong in their lefe, it all coes out like I'm some sort of heartless biatch ... anyone esle have this issue?

I've apologized for what I said to my Mom and she said she understood what I meant but I still feel really bad ...

Yes.. it's hoorrrrrrrible. Sometimes I just sit back and think "what the hell was I thinking when I said that?!" and then my only answer would be that I really wasn't thinking. I actually get misunderstood quite often because I say things before actually analyising how it will sound to someone else.. I've concluded that I'm a weird person with a weird thought pattern and that is dangerous combination for someone who cannot hold their tongue.

I know ... I insult a lot of people and I don't mean to, so over the years I've made a conscientous decision to sit back and think but sometimes you just don't.

@ LaDonna D. oh yes yes she would ... in fact that's why I was so weary of having her and my Dad pay for the whole sh-bang ... but so far so good, of course when I leave and she comes with for a planning trip in a week or so ... I'll probably see just what a WITCH she can be .... LOL but I'll have to hold my tongue and smile ... yet make sure I sign the contracts not her ...

Shes mommy... Im sure she means well and wants whats best for her baby girl but try to kindly remind her its your wedding not hers... Just say, "I appreciate all your ideas and input, but fh and I wanted to do it this way but that was a good idea" So, agree to disagree and no feelings should be hurt.

Yes I too suffer from "Foot in Mouth" syndrome. Thats why now I take a deep deep breathe before I speak about certain things

Didn't read any other comments, I would just say that if you are responding to something that you feel is a sensitive subject, and you think your response may come out the wrong way, start off with, "I hope this doesn't come across rude or mean", or, "I hope you don't take this the wrong way".

If those closest to you know that this is an issue for you, they will understand, and be forgiving even if their feelings do get hurt.
