Why so much hate for the line dances?

Susan, on April 11, 2019 at 7:51 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 41

I was reading another thread about what songs were on peoples "do not play list" and I was surprised how many people said they were banning all the line dance songs, ie, The Cha Cha Slide, Electric Slide, Cupid Shuffle, etc. Why are there so many haters for the line dances?

My fiance and I are actually excited about these songs. Of course we are old so maybe we are out of the loop. They always seem to get lots of people on the dance floor and we want everyone at our wedding to dance and have a good time.

Everyone definitely has a different taste in musici originally wanted to limit line dances after we went on a cruise and there were so many freakin line dance song played lol. I was done.
However, I see how excited people get when they hear them and it gets everyone on the dance floor so I'm ok with it now.

Totally agree! If people know the dance or are told what dances ahead of time they can learn the dance and jump in the crowd- makes it fun for everyone!

They're a little cheesy, but we definitely didn't ban them from our wedding! Every now and then people wander off the dance floor and the DJ has to bring them back. What better way then a group dance like Electric Slide? I've yet to see an empty dance floor when that was playing!

I think it's because it's so over done every wedding has them. I'm speaking from a banquet servers point of view. I used to do banquets hearing cha cha slide and such for the billionth time starts wearing on the nerves. I started hearing it in my sleep! Lol

I personally love them as well. I think that they help to get people out on the dance floor.

I love them! There wasn't a whole lot of dancing at my wedding since we're not huge dancers, but I had a guest come up to me and ask of we could do the cupid shuffle. We turned it on and tons of people came and danced with us! It was awesome!

I think, like with all music, you’ll find people who love them, people who hate them, and some people who could take or leave them. We don’t plan on banning them, but we’re also not going out of our way to play them. When you’ve spent a few years in a row going to 5+ weddings yearly, some things start to get old.

Haha I didn’t realize other people hate them. The way my fh talks I’m the only person in the world who doesn’t like them. It’s an ongoing discussion between us I don’t want them he really does. I just feel like I get bored and it’s at every event. It does fill the dance floor. I really don’t know why I can’t stand so strongly I literally just shuddered just thinking about them. 🤦🏼‍♀️

We banned them because they always feel forced and awkward. No one in our party actually enjoys them, but they feel like they HAVE TO participate. Our DJ did just fine without trying to force everyone to follow some directions in a song lol.

To each their own, of course, but cheesy & awkward forced unity just wasn't our thing!

I think line dances are either a dance floor buster or killer. Not everyone knows the dances and not everyone likes them so it can go either way. I personally enjoy them and I did not any to my list but we had a few that worked out great. One that’s my all time favorite is the conga line which is not technically a line dance but you can go all around the venue and pick up all guest and bring them to the dance floor. Is ultimate a great technique.

At every wedding that I've been to, when one of those comes on, everyone goes and lines up for the bar. No one seems to like them (me included) so we just did a hard pass.
