Will it look bad if my fiance drives to the wedding in a van?!

mrswinteriscoming, on March 10, 2021 at 10:58 PM Posted in Planning 0 19

I have hired two cars for my wedding; the first is a 12 seater stretch limo for my side of the family (there are 11 of us) and the second is a 7 seat Mercedes van for my fiancé and his family (there are 4 of them). The van was $390 cheaper than a limo and more comfortable (higher seats so easier to get in and out of).

My family have told me that we must have both cars be limo because otherwise when our videographers film the wedding, we’ll think poorly later on about how ‘he arrived in a van’. To say the least, one of the things I was told (verbatim) was “you don’t want your grandkids in 30-40 years time saying ‘grandma, you made grandpa drive to the wedding in a van?!’”. My fiancé doesn’t care less and he agrees the van is more comfortable.

So...do I (a) pay more and replace the van with a limo up or (b) keep the van hired?!

I feel like that isn't really a part that needs to be in the wedding video. I would save the money and go with the van.

That's what I said, I thought of the 10 hours of footage surely they don't need to include us getting in and out of cars. That, and the van is so much more comfortable!

I would stick with the van. I don’t think your videographer is well spent too much time filming the vehicles. They may not even film them at all

Unless you're arriving in a horse drawn carriage, your transportation will not be a highlight of your wedding or video

    Don't overthink it Smiley smile

Agree. It doesn't belong in the video and guests won't blink if you do arrive that way. The wedding party arrives long before the guests show up anyway.

Take your fiancé’s lead. Go with the van.

To those insisting on something more expensive, let them know how much that will cost THEM and you will book it as soon as they pay you in cash. Smiley smile Replying to their inappropriate comments by telling them they can help with your wedding expenses usually gets them to be quiet.

Plan B and I also agree that this will most likely not be in your video. Best wishes 🥰

I mean, I nearly got to and from my wedding on the subway.... It really doesn't matter.

And, yeah, limos are NOT comfortable with too many people in them.

I’d go with the van. I told FH I wouldn’t mind driving myself but he insists on a classic car for us. He hasn’t asked for much during planning so whenever he has some input I usually agree.

If you want something more flashy than a van, but still want the comfort/height, FH could use a stretch hummer

Keep the van... I highly doubt anyone is going critique how you arrived at your wedding 30 years from now..

Keep the van. It’s a way to transport people comfortably and safely. We’ll prob have to rent a car and I never even thought it would matter what kind.
I’m sure we’ll be driving off in my Kia Soul LOL

The thought of making any wedding decisions based on the supposed reactions of purely hypothetical grandchildren 40 years in the future is hilarious to me.

You already know what you want to do (not waste money on impractical transportation) so be confident in your decisions and stop entertaining ideas from silly people.

The hire company only have a 7 seater van. I didn’t choose a limo because I wanted a limo but more because it was an economical option (we got a discount) that fit everyone

Yeah I don’t really think it’ll matter or be something that you’ll think much of in the video
