Will my crepe paper flowers "wilt"?

EdieKristen, on July 10, 2011 at 6:58 AM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 4

Not sure how many of you are familiar with this craft, but I plan on making my centerpiece flowers out of crepe paper and/or tissue paper (check out martha stewart's diy wedding section on her website for examples). I'm wondering if anyone here has done this and how early you made your flowers?

i want to start as early as possible so I can make a little bit here and there and have plenty of time to make as many as I want. However, my sister seems to think that the flowers wont hold up and will start to "wilt" so we should only make them the month before or the month of a wedding. I think she's crazy and I don't want to spend all day every day right before my wedding making paper flowers if I can do it earlier!

So, anyone know when a safe time to make these would be? Everything I've found online just states they last "a very long time" but in relation to fresh flowers that could just mean a month..

Paper won't 'wilt' but it is easily crushed, water will kill it, and they'll get dusty if you make them too soon. A month out should be plenty of time to make them.

They won't wilt, but it will be sensitive to the elements. You can make it ahead of time, but just be sure to keep it in boxes and away from sunlight and moisture.

Get a bunch of big plastic tubs, these have seriously been a life saver! I'm doing origami flowers and I was concerned with them getting dusty so I just toss them in the tubs and they're perfect! I started in January and I'm STILL working on them, so I would say starting earlier than a month is a really good idea. It might not seem like it at first, but paper flowers are very time consuming.

Here's Erin A's thread I found on the search. She started in January/February too and her wedding is after mine, lol! https://www.weddingwire.com/wedding-forums/paper-flower-crazy/ad3b24ab1662d908.html

They won't wilt unless you have them outside in storage or somewhere they can get damp from humidity etc. the plastic bins are perfect! This is an AWESOME website I found for diy paper stuff !
