Will people dance?

Elizabeth, on September 26, 2019 at 3:28 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 7
Our small (50 people) ceremony is going to start at noon and lunch/reception will follow until 5 pm because we have to be out of the venue at 6 pm. My question is will people dance at that time of day while it’s still daytime? Our venue has windows but it’s decently dim due to wood walls so I’m hoping lighting wouldn’t keep people from dancing. We will have beer and wine available. Would a Spotify playlist as background music and other entertainment, like board games, be a better option for a daytime wedding?

It really depends on your crowd. Some people will avoid the dance floor, some don't want to see a wedding without one. Whichever you think will keep your guests entertained for a few hours should be fine.

I agree with PP, this is a know your crowd thing. I personally don't drink enough to shake my groove thing before 5 pm, but that doesn't mean your friends won't dance.

I've been to weddings without a dance floor and i've been to weddings with ones where people didn't dance anyway. it really depends as others have said on your crowd and if you can get them up

As said above I think this is group dependent. We love to dance and also had a lunch reception in a very well lit room (lots of windows). We had the dance floor put towards the center of the room and my husband and I almost never left the dance floor ourselves, it stayed pretty crowded.

I have the same questions! Ours is brunch/lunch time as well. I plan to have music playing loud enough people can dance but also soft enough that people can easily talk. I feel like the smaller the guest list, the less likely guests will dance.

As a guest, I always at least make an attempt to dance at a reception! I think your idea of having board games is fun too! If there is alcohol and good music, people will dance!

This exactly. We have about 70 people coming to ours and I guarantee you anything other than slow dances there will be maybe 12 people on the dance floor and its going to be the wedding party and us. The rest of our guests aren't going to go out of their way to dance (again, unless its a slow song they can dance with SO) regardless of the time of day. If you have dancers then you have dancers. Do what YOU will enjoy!
