Will the bride stand on the left side?

Traditionally, the bride stands on the left side of the altar for the wedding ceremony so that the groom can use his right hand in case he needs to fight for his bride, should someone try to steal her away last minute on the wedding day! Thankfully the kidnapping part of this tradition died long long ago, but brides still keep up the tradition of standing on the left side.

Which side are you going to stand on for your wedding ceremony? Are you doing or ditching this tradition?

If you’re a same-sex couple, how are you deciding which side to stand on?

Thank you, next (tradition): Are you ditching the traditional wedding party?

Probably. He wants to get married in a church for some strange reason. Neither he or I go to church though! Churches generally do that type of seating

Yes, I did. But when I got to the top of the stairs, everyone was on the wrong side (that is what we get for not having a rehearsal! Lol). I motioned for them to change and they did. It wouldn't have really mattered in the long run, but my hair piece was on the right and I wanted it to show in the pics.

I had no idea there was a story behind this! While staging out our ceremony and reception at my fiance's parents, I picked where our arch will stand and I, without even realizing it, put myself on the left! Our ceremony is 24 people, just family and a few friends, so I don't think we'll have sides and I'll just stand opposite of whatever side he puts himself on. Having a ceremony that wasn't at city hall was a long discussion so that we're doing one at all that day is a win in my book!

I also didn’t know the back story to this. We will more than likely keep his tradition!

Hahaha ditching - solely because that would have my bad side facing the guests. 😂 I want my good side for the ceremony pics. Hahaha.

I didn’t know that was a thing! I will probably be on the left then, I don’t really have any strong feelings about it. Like someone said above it also will depend on how my hair is parted.

This will be up to my FH, he is completely deaf in his right ear, so we may switch sides if he feels he would hear the priest better. However, he is pretty traditional, so he may want to be on the right side anyway.
