Will the bride stand on the left side?

Traditionally, the bride stands on the left side of the altar for the wedding ceremony so that the groom can use his right hand in case he needs to fight for his bride, should someone try to steal her away last minute on the wedding day! Thankfully the kidnapping part of this tradition died long long ago, but brides still keep up the tradition of standing on the left side.

Which side are you going to stand on for your wedding ceremony? Are you doing or ditching this tradition?

If you’re a same-sex couple, how are you deciding which side to stand on?

Thank you, next (tradition): Are you ditching the traditional wedding party?

Weirdly, I feel like I should be standing on the left however the way our venue is designed I will be walking in from the right side so I have no choice but to stand on the right. Alternatively, I could walk right passed him and turn around to be on the leftSmiley smile

The bride being on the left of the groom is only traditional in certain cultures. For example, in the Jewish tradition, the bride is on the right side of the groom due to an interpretation of a verse in Psalms (45:10): "The queen stands on your right hand in fine gold of Ophir."

Though my partner and I aren't Jewish, I will be walking on the right hand side of the aisle. I don't like the symbolism behind the bride walking on the left. For me and my partner, this isn't a tradition we want to participate in as we very much value each other as equals.

This bride stands to the right, because I'm always to the right. Even when we're walking next to each other out in public, I'm always on his right.

It better be my good side, lol j/k
But all jokes aside I think it makes sense for the groom to be on the right because the boutonnière usually goes over the heart and that’s the side facing the audience
