Will valium help?

Nicole, on July 3, 2019 at 11:53 PM Posted in Planning 0 18
I'm 9 days out and totally cool but I know the day before and day if I'm going to be the same crazy mess I always am when I have a busy day. Would anyone recommend taking a half valium the night before and half the day of? A while will make me very sleepy. Also, I have pretty bad stomach issues so I'm hoping an anxiety med will keep me cool. Any tips are appreciated

Ask a doctor? Are you prescribed Valium? If so, yes, take it as directed. If not, probably don’t take it. This seems like a really odd place to ask questions about drugs.

I agree with Caytlyn. It's not recommended to take medication that is not prescribed for you. There are so many possible issues with taking someone else's prescription. Dosage varies and "a half" is not always the same milligram amount. Also, there's quite a bit of research out there in the negative side effects of taking benzodiazepines, especially when mixing with alcohol. Talk to your doctor about if this would be a good idea.

I would not take medication that is not prescribed to me. I would also not experiment with random meds you are not taking on regular basis, on your wedding day. A visit to your doctor would be the best thing to do. They might be able to prescribe something mild for performance anxiety, like propranolol or something else that they find appropriate.
If you have trouble calming down you can always try chamomile tea, staying hydrated, eating regularly, skipping caffeine, 4-7-8 breathing, meditation, aerobic exercise and similar coping strategies.

Why is it odd to ask if anyone else has taken something for anxiety? Yes its prescribed to me for anxiety but only to take if needed...like going on the plane for my HM. I only take it for my dentist visits to keep my stomach calm so I was wondering if it would help for something like a wedding. You know, people shouldn't judge others who benefit from medications. I have never even had alcohol in my life and refuse something as simple as advil unless dire. I asked about this bc it's a big deal day and feel my nerves could go wacky

I've never once had alcohol on my life. It has been prescribed to me. The question I had was if I should take a small amount to take the edge off... like did other people do this to help shake the anxiety of the day

THE MEDICATION IS PRESCRIBED TO ME!!!!!!! MY JESUS CHRIST. I'm simply asking if it's a bad idea to take an anxiety medication or if its suggested if you know you're at risk for having an issue. Like... I've never been married before so I dont know what to expect. Sitting in traffic gets my anxiety going. I also never had alcohol in my life. No need to assume ...it would be way cooler if people asked

I will for sure skip caffeine. But it is prescribed to me. Doctor gives it to me for the dentist and has decided to give it to me for the HM since I'm a high risk for panic attacks and anxiety if I get worried. I have some non-life threatening chronic medication conditions that make me super panicky

You know yourself better than we do. Since it’s prescribed to you and you already know how it affects you, I can’t see any harm in taking it. I get anxiety and panic attack’s too, but the meds my doctor gave me made me suicidally depressed, so I manage in other ways. If you’re starting to feeling anxious in the next few days you could give breathing exercises and/or meditation a try. Ultimately, do what is going to be best for you so that you can enjoy the day. Take care.

Legit, everything I've tried for anxiety has amped up my intestinal pain. This is the only thing that kind of keeps the edge off. The only aide effect is sleepiness which I dont want. I also dont want stomach issues bc God knows how that will work with a dress as big as mine. I try to tell myself it's just a big, fun party and itll be fine lol. I think I'm more worried about feeding off of the emotions of others ...like if I see a family member cry it's going to choke me up and then itll stress me out haha

I wouldn't take valium because I don't have a Rx.. As someone who has anxiety, I have to say that there are situations for having anxiety is a natural response. Weddings are a huge milestone and it's completely normal to lose your nerves a little. I would try to use other coping strategies before taking valium. Valium is not meant to be popped but to be used after everything else has failed. If you feel you need to use it then use it, just thought I'd offer other ideas first.

Nobody is judging. Caytlyn suggested asking your doctor because that’s the appropriate response. Most people on here are not doctors and even if we were, we’re not YOUR doctor. At best, what you’ll get here is anecdotal evidence - one or two people who have taken something around their wedding, but you don’t know the totality of their circumstances so it may not at all be the same thing. Ask your doctor. Good luck.

I would take one the night before. The pill will last long enough into the morning. You don't want to be mixing that and alcohol. No judgement as I'm prescribed Xanax for anxiety situations that lead to stomach issues. Have an Imodium in the morning just to be cautious, take deep breaths and you'll be ok. I had a cousin take a Valium day of wedding and she said she barely remembered her day...so I'd say take one night before, get good sleep and it should still have effect the next day. Also, I'm not a doctor, just experience.

Everything has failed. I've even had a surgery to look for something wrong. Believe me, I'm a lot resort person. I dont take drugs ever and never had alcohol. I know to do without. I've always had a bottle here and only take for dental procedures. So I def do well by that

Good point. I'll ask about it a d test it out beforehand. My stomach will also ruin my wedding day so I'm trying to lesser of two evils. I dont drink though so mixing is not to be considered

I totally understand, which is a huge reason I want to do a first look because I feel like having a few moments alone together before the ceremony will help calm me down. Since we’re having a later ceremony I may also drop in at a yoga session in the morning, maybe my girls will even join me. You’ll still feel anxious I’m sure, which is a natural response, but you definitely don’t want it to be debilitating.

In general valium is a powerful sedative, the intent of it generally to make someone pass out, stop seizures, or prevent someone from committing suicide. I have international issues too and have always been given kolonopin for anxiety but situations where I need to stay awake. You probably should just consult the prescribing doctor because none of us know you or your entire medical history as well as your doctor does. They could likely even advise you over the phone rather than a visit.
