Will you be saving the top tier of your wedding cake?

Have you thought about saving the top tier of your wedding cake? Traditionally, it’s saved by the couple to eat on their first wedding anniversary. What do you think? Are you saving the top tier for your first anniversary? Or have you decided to say toodle-oo to that tradition? Photo from Sophia...

We didn’t. I have no desire to eat cake that’s a year old. Besides the top layer was gluten free (for me) so I could eat it so I enjoyed it for a while. 😊

My MIL has ours in their spare freezer... my husband wanted to save it, so I agreed.

We decided to not save the top tier. When we met with our wedding cake designer (Ganache Fine Cakes). They offer a 1 year anniversay cake. They will make it look like your wedding cake. It turned out perfect and wonderful! Definitely happy we went with this option. Enjoying a fresh cake instead. Smiley smile

My husband and I just celebrated our 1 year anniversary. We saved the cake in the freezer, and it was actually really good!

I think it depends on the type and quality of the cake as well as how good the baker is.

I'm really happy we saved it!

Yes we did! It’s a big top and also we didn’t really have any of it besides the stuff smudged on our faces! I will thaw it out for our first real try of the cake in a few weeks!!

We did not save the top tier of our wedding cake. Our bakery has a promotion where they will remake the top tier of their clients' wedding cakes for the one year anniversary free of charge. They do this so the cake will be fresh and taste just as good as it did on that day.

Negative. Neither of us like the idea of wasting the space in the freezer for a year or eating year old cake. It was a firm no.

We decided to save the top tier of our cake! Within the first year of marriage, we moved 1,500 miles and bought dry ice every day of the drive here to keep it frozen. Our anniversary was last weekend and it was so much fun eating the cake together. It brought up so many memories! The top and bottom tiers of our cake were raspberry champagne and the middle was lemon cream cheese. We fed each other a bite of the lemon at our reception but didn’t get to try the raspberry, which we were both more excited about in the first place. It was awesome to get to eat a whole piece of the raspberry on our anniversary, even if it was a year later! I’m so happy we decided to save the cake for ourselves!

We already weren't planning to, but then the caterers massacred the leftover cake putting it away so we would't have been able to anyway (nothing was still in tier/round form anymore). We did freeze what was left though, and had some on our one month anniversary.

We have our cake topper sitting on our dining room table though.

We have already talked about it and decided that we are not going to save it. We know how busy wedding receptions can be and we may not have a whole lot of time to eat and have a cake then. So we decided that we are going to have our top-tier and some champagne either on our wedding night or on our honeymoon.

During our cake tasting session, I asked for tips on preserving the top tier of our wedding cake for our anniversary; she recommended against it and offered a complimentary tier for our first anniversary.

I'd recommend slicing, wrapping with plastic wrap and then foil to preserve but i'm no expert (ha).

Our wedding was a year ago but since it was in my home town and we had to travel we didn’t save the top. We don’t mind tho. My aunty made the cake so we can ask her for a recipe and make a fresh one 🤤

No. Our cake shop will remake us the same kind on our 1 yr anniversary, for free. So we're serving it all.

Our cake had 3 flavors so we are saving big pieces of each flavor. Hopefully, the flavors will retain and we can enjoy the cake on our anniversary!

I wasn’t planning on doing that but since we had our reception in my moms backyard and she made the delicious cake for us she saved it for us to eat on our anniversary. She made a small salted caramel cake for the top tier and the rest were different flavored cupcakes. My husband and I were the only ones that ate the actual cake part so there was a lot left. I’m actually glad she saved it cause the cake was so good! Can’t wait to eat it in a few weeks for our 1 year anniversary!

We're saving ours. Even though they say it doesn't taste good a year later.
