Will you be saving the top tier of your wedding cake?

Have you thought about saving the top tier of your wedding cake? Traditionally, it’s saved by the couple to eat on their first wedding anniversary. What do you think? Are you saving the top tier for your first anniversary? Or have you decided to say toodle-oo to that tradition? Photo from Sophia...

We saved ours and it tasted so good! The venue wrapped it in saran wrap and then wrapped the box in saran wrap.

We decided to save some of the cake until a week after and have the baker recreate a small one for our 1st anniversary.

I'm a little skeptical to eat year-old cake, so we'll probably just eat any cake leftovers for breakfast after the wedding Smiley laugh

Nope...ew haha. Instead, I surprised H with a replica top tier from the bakery that did our wedding cake for our anniversary! I highly recommend doing this, it was so fun and special (and far more delicious than year old cake). We drank champagne and read the letters we wrote to each other before the wedding 😊

Our bakery made us a special top tier that was boxed and kept aside for us.

It's wrapped in plastic in our freezer!

My top tier had preservatives fillings. So we will make a fresh one.😋🎂 I'm still trying to figure out a gift for my husband besides money.

We’re actually having a super intimate wedding , so the need for a two-tiered cake is actually too much! But I heard something similar that it tastes awful anyway, so unless there’s some type of magical preservative in it, chances are no, we won’t save it. But a member of my soon-to-be in laws is making our cake, so there’s a personal touch to it as well.

We were exhausted and ate it for dinner the day after our wedding lol. Didn’t plan on saving it anyway; the idea of year old cake wasn’t super appealing to us. We actually celebrated our anniversary at the restaurant where we were married and got ourselves some fresh cake ;-)

We did save the top, not something we planned, but the venue handled it all. By the time we got back to the suite after the whole event it was there in the fridge, in a labeled box, and plastic wrapped. I liked the idea, so we went with it. Something to look forward to, we really didn't get to eat the cake at the wedding, we were up dancing too much!

Storing it was a bit tricky, we have a side by side refrigerator, and the box was too big for the freezer! Luckily my parents are kind, and let us keep it in their bottom drawer freezer for an entire year.

We followed the instructions my wonderful cake maker shared (take it out of the freezer for 24 hours to defrost in the refrigerator, and at least 1 hour on the counter before eating) and honestly, I was shocked that on our anniversary it tasted good. It wasn't stale or hard, we really enjoyed it. The top was the size of a cake I would get to server 6-10 at a party, so the last of it did go stale before we finished eating it, so perhaps having some important people over to eat it with you before that would be nice! We did share it with my parents as a thank you for taking up all the space for a year, but it was still too much to eat for folks who don't typically have dessert every day, and certainly not a slice of cake with 5 layers!

We didn't have cake, because I don't like cake. We did pies instead, and did not save any. The venue gave us a bottle of wine with a personalized label, and we drank that on our 1st anniversary. We'll probably continue with fresh pies in the future.

We saved ours and it was pretty good considering It made many journeys during the year. We were married in NH and flew back to Georgia. Then we moved from Georgia back to NH!

We are not saving our top tier. The thought of eating year old cake is not very appealing to me. Instead I would rather eat our cake on our 1 day anniversary...lol

We saved a piece for our anniversary...and it wasn't that great, haha. My husband barely ate a crumb!

We’re saving ours. Each layer will be a flavor of each tier. They have the preservation kits now, so hopefully it’s good in 2020 🤞🏽

No thanks. I’m actually ordering less servings than my guest count because I always see leftover cake at other weddings. We’ll get a fresh cake for one year anniversary ❤️

Our baker made us a separate cake that matched our top tier.. She gave it to us on our wedding day (well delivered it with our wedding cake). So it was immediately wrapped up and we saved it until our 1st anniversary Smiley smile It wasn't particularly good, but it wasn't bad either.

We actually just ordered Bundt cakes for our wedding, so we're gonna order one of the 3 flavors (or maybe all 3 😉) as bundlet cakes for our anniversary! It saved us money on a cakes that were only half-eaten, and we can enjoy for years 💖
