Super November 2013

Williams Sonoma

WW is making me want to register there by taunting me with the flashing banner...anyone register there and actually have luck?

I'm afraid to because I already have people telling me that I won't get any of the gifts that I want from Crate and Barrel.

I've registered at Williams-Sonoma (and Crate & Barrel too!). Some folks have bought stuff at both stores already.

What do you mean by "have luck"? Why would people think you wouldn't get gifts from C&B?

A very bitter individual told me that it's much too expensive and I am selfish to expect my guests to buy things from there.

I registered at BB&B as well and am considering Target to offset the uppity impression that C&B apparently gives people.

    Hmph.

You can register where ever you want, and it's your wedding, etc. but as a guest, I think more than 3 registries appears a little...not the right impression. Anyone else? I think 3 is good, but also a maximum, and it's good that you mixed stores with different price points. We have a Williams Sonoma Registry and are happy with it...maybe you could delete either the target or BB&B...

anyone else think more than 3 is excessive? I'm curious about opinions on this. I personally will not do more than 3.

Oh cripes. Bitter is right! Crate & Barrel stuff is VERY inexpensive. And my Williams-Sonoma stuff ranges from $25 to $450. A few people have already bought things in the $100-$200 range.

As for @Stacy A.'s question, I have registries at W-S, C&B, Macy's, and Sur la Table. They're all fairly small--the things I want are just pretty scattered, I guess. It's not like there are 500 things on each of my registries. If someone has a problem with it, they can kiss my butt.

I think it depends. If a couple cooks, then I would have no problem buying them a $200 saute pan from Williams Sonoma because I know they'll care for it and use it every day. If they don't know how to make an omelette or stir fry, I'd scratch my head. WS is expensive and specialized, so why would you even want to register there if you're not enthusiastic about cooking, you know? So it's up to you. And Leanna, I think it's a good to register at a variety of stores. One of my best friends HATES C&B and would loathe having to spend money there, so she could just get your gift at Macy's.

We registered at WS and Macy's. I would remove the bitter individual from your guest list, or tell them to kiss off. What a jerk.

I see what Stacy is saying w/ the multiple registry's and how it could be misunderstood. I just didn't want to have to go through the hassle of registering all over the place so we kept it to 2. I can't say if I got a wedding invite with 5 registry's on it I would think that couple was... greedy? I would just think they are offering a lot of options, but that's just me.

    Edit: Typo Smiley sad

Is your bitter person my FSIL Courtney? When she asked where I was thinking about registering I told her Bed, Bath and Beyond, maybe Macy's or JCP and Williams Sonoma, and no joke said do you think the queen from England is attending your wedding, how can you expect people to pay for those. I don't think it is that much every wedding I have ever attended in my family I have bought gifts there and I LOVE that store!

Just do it! It's your wedding!

I'd say do it! It's your wedding. I'm pretty sure you'll get a few gifts from there. And like you said, those who don't want to purchase from there or can't afford to have other options.

The wedding planning books and etiquette books I have say 3 is a good balance and recommend 1 department store, 1 speciality chain, and one boutique. We did Target as our department store, Williams-Sonoma as our specialty chain (we are very into cooking and do it a lot), and a boutique for our everyday dishes...I have personally never seen more than 3 done. I think maybe it's better (etiquette wise) to just do 3 and use wedding money for things at other stores if you want them. Just my opinion. I do care if people are offended, whether or not they are justified. One thing about weddings is you invite people from many different backgrounds and more importantly, generations. Grandparents, parents friends, and our friends will all see things differently. It is up to you to know your guests and know how they will see things. Sometimes airing on the side of caution is wise.

We registered at BBB, Williams Sonoma, and Crate and Barrel. Most of the physical gifts we received came from Williams Sonoma, though honestly most people gave cash and/or stuff not from our registries. The price points were about the same from all three registries ($3-$300, average around $50). A couple people (close friends or family) commented that WS is too expensive, but I answered that the items aren't any more expensive than the other two stores. People just assumed the store is too expensive or that I only registered for very expensive items. Aside from cash/gifts not from registries, we received most gifts from WS, then C&B, and one gift from BBB. BBB was actually the most expensive registry gift received Smiley smile
