Wine and beer only?

My fiancé and I have a low budget for the bar, but still want to provide everyone with something to drink (maybe 1 drink per person). We’re thinking of just doing wine and beer, or maybe only offering 2 custom cocktails that we choose (maybe a Mai Tai and something else). Thoughts?

I'm sure it would be a hit to include!

Well I would personally view things like hiring a professional videographer and taking a $10k honeymoon as the ultimate luxuries, but I view serving wine and beer at a wedding as standard practice and good hosting means not making guests open up their wallets. Maybe we just have a difference in opinion. It's your wedding, so you do you!

It's not tacky to have a tip jar, it's rude. The hosts of the event are responsible for tipping the staff, not the guests.

For the per person/per drink charge, check your contract. My venue includes food and beverage, and that package includes coffee, tea, and soda. We're going with a pre-paid tab for alcoholic drinks, so they'll be charged per drink. And we are doing all liquor, as I don't like beer and wine--I've gone to enough weddings where I haven't had an alcoholic drink option, and I want to be able to have a drink or two at my own wedding!

We are only doing beer and wine.
Our ceremony and reception are in the early afternoon. So we thought beer and wine would be good.

Unlimited beer and wine is a great idea! I think drink tickets just adds a middleman to the idea of drinks for money.

Etiquette-wise, the key here is that guests should not have to pay for anything at an event that you're hosting. The reception is provided as a thank you to guests for attending your wedding, not the other way around. That's why many people don't think to carry cash or cards to a wedding reception.

invite the number of people you can comfortably afford and prioritize the hosting part. People will remember being properly treated at your wedding.

I can relate to being on a budget! Does your venue offer a minimum wine and beer package? Ours offers one that is $17 a person. You choose 3 wines and 3 beers for the bar and guests can choose from those

Are you able to bring in your own beer/wine? If so, $1,000 should be enough to cover the entire night - especially if you are just doing beer/wine. You can buy a lot of beer/wine and even champagne at Costco or anything alike - and you can return whatever you don't use!

I've bought a 24 pack of beer from Costco for $20

    $1000 budget / $20 per pack = 50 packs

    50 packs x 24 beers in each pack = 1,200 beers

1,200 beers / 100 guests = 12 beers per person - no way one person is going to drink 12 beers!

Its a package at a hotel and its 69 per person. Cocktail hour is coctail rounds and then after dinner is rounds of 8. My fiance's family likes to drink so no problem there
