Wine brands?

This may be a dumb question but here goes.... My venue isn't allowed to provide alcohol; they only have the license to serve it, which means I have to bring in my own. Hey, it saves me money! We're bringing beer and wine. Beer I have covered. As for the wine... I have no idea what is considered...

My venue isn't allowed to provide alcohol; they only have the license to serve it, which means I have to bring in my own. Hey, it saves me money!

We're bringing beer and wine. Beer I have covered. As for the wine... I have no idea what is considered acceptable. The fanciest wine I've ever bought was yellow tail, which is pretty cheap (~$8 for a 750mL bottle). Is that considered too cheap a wine for a wedding? What are some of y'all's favorite brands that you would prefer/expect at a wedding?

I also strongly recommend Trader Joe's for reasonably priced good wines!

I don't mind Yellow Tail at all! Spend some time at Total Wine, either on site or via computer. IMO they have the best offers too for bulk. Lucky you geing able to purchase your own liquor.

I agree with the yellowtail and barefoot wine choices for inexpensive selections. I personally hate sweet wines like moscato and would be really disappointed if that were the only white choice, BUT sweet wines tend to be popular in other areas. This is a difficult question to ask without knowing anything about you or your crowd. Do you have any girlfriends who like wine that you could ask their opinion?

I think it's up to you. If I go with a venue that doesn't provide one in just going to get one type of sweet wine and one type of dry wine. The sweet wine I was going to get is called Well Hung. It's my favorite!

I used Barefoot for my wine. I bought 7 cases total and buying on sale I paid around $50-60 per case.

Second the Apothic recommendation. I actually love their rosé. My fave is the Red or the Dark. I don't like the Crush that much. 19 Crimes is another favorite.

Beringer! They have reds, whites, moscato, and White Zinfandel they're only like $3-$5 a bottle and sell in cases. Also check Costco.

Trader Joe's and world market place have great wine at reasonable prices. Don't be afraid of the boxes of wine. They are a great bargain. If you are afraid someone won't like a specific brand, consider making personalized labels for your bottles.

Yellowtail, risata Moscato, Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, Merlot. All of these are reasonable. If you have a Costco membership you can get a lot of wine for $10 which is just fine.

Woodbridge or Blackstone I prefer. They are both cheap. $10 and I love them. I'm not a fan of yellow tail. Also sutter home is good too, cheap as well. Sutter home comes in a variety of whites pinks and reds. The other two I mentioned come in different reds

You need to know your crowd, too. If you have guests who are very wine knowledgable vs those who like to drink wine occasionally, the answer will vary.

As someone in the wine business, whose guests are mostly in the business as well, we would not be overjoyed with anything suggested so far. But, if the crowd are not wine savvy, some of these are good choices. I would gravity to the J Lohr suggestion. They have both red and white.

One key is to have a white and a red and perhaps a second white the is sweeter. So, say for instance a Chardonnay (or Sauvignon Blac); Riesling (or Moscato) and a Cabernet Sauvignon or Merlot.

I have been struggling with this too! I try to stay away from brands that people know are cheap, like barefoot and yellowtail. Mostly because there are tons of smaller producers that also make affordable wine! I tried to formulate my own criteria for selecting wines. Maybe it will help you? I am doing a bunch of tastings next week as well, our budget is under $13 a bottle so I will let you know what we pick! https://www.readbetweenthewines.net/blog/2018/6/22/choosing-wine-for-your-wedding-our-top-picks
