Winter Brides!- Fur Shawl?

FutureMrs223, on October 19, 2017 at 8:08 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 31

My wedding is in February and I was considering getting each of my bridesmaids a faux fur shawl/stole for them to wear because it's most likely going to be frigid. This is NOT THEIR BRIDESMAID GIFT--it is just something nice I'd like to do for my girls.

Does anyone have a website where they got theirs that was reasonable (no more than 25 a piece-- I have 8 girls).

DO NOT MAKE YOUR BMs TAKE PICTURES IN THE COLD!!! I was in a winter wedding and the bride made us do this. In the pictures you can see us trying to huddle as close together for warmth and we look miserable. Our outfits were “winterised” but when it’s below zero, it’s fucking cold!

I found some on Amazon, but the cheapest I found was under $35. Much cheaper than that and quality was crap, at least according to the reviews.

I ordered mine from eBay for $7!! Another bride posted how she bought a fur stole from eBay and I thought there is no way it would be of good quality but I was really surprised. I just tried to look up the seller on eBay and unfortunately I wasn't able to find them again. I would search for other sellers on eBay though. Good luck!

Is this just for walking in and out of venues or for standing out in the cold taking pictures? Cause that's not going to be fun for your BMs. I would be looking at full on matching coats if you want to take pictures outside.

I was in a wedding that was outdoors in April, but it happened to be 40 degrees that day, and there was no backup plan. We were MISERABLE, and you could see it in the photos.

Where are you getting married? If it is somewhere that could snow in February, I would maybe get one picture outside and then get everyone warm. If it is somewhere that is more like 50 degrees (slightly chilly but not cold) I think it would be cute.

Do not make your BMs stand outside in the cold at all. Not for the ceremony, not for pictures NOT AT ALL. A shawl will not keep anyone warm, even a fur one.

Take some lovely indoor pictures with your BP inside in the heat! Everyone will thank you.

I was planning on getting blanket scarves for my girls since they can wrap them around their shoulders and use them again after the wedding.

You'd be shocked how many people think it's okay to force their guests and BP members to be outside in the winter. Your post implied that you may have been considering doing something outside, since you said it was going to be frigid. Based on the information provided, there was some concern. I didn't read any of it as snark (nor was my comment meant in a snarky way).

Now that you've updated, we know that you're not, which is wonderful.

But there should be no "concern". Frankly, I don't think its anyone's business on where I choose to do my photos. Nor is it any of my business on whatever any other bride decides to do. This forum is to help assist brides with their questions, not guilt them into making them feel like they're doing something wrong.

I just feel like this entire post veered off of my original question. Thank you to those who actually decided to provide an answer to my question instead of making it about something I never intended to do in the first place.

I guess I just don't understand the purpose of getting them shawls if they aren't going to be outside without jackets?

Well they have to go outside to get into transportation so I thought it would make sense. Knowing my girls they would appreciate it too. They are the type to go out and not bring a jacket so I thought a shawl would be a nice gesture. If they dont use it, they dont use it. But its nice for them to have the option of having one.

FutureMrs223, if you're open to wraps or pashmina scarves, there are lots of good options on Amazon. My best friend's wedding is Dec 2 in Virginia, and since the dress she picked out for us has bared arms (couldn't find an option with sleeves and a covered back), she wants us to have wraps or scarves for our arms for short walks and some pictures. We found ours for $10 or 15. They aren't super heavy, but they're thick enough that they'll help some.

That makes sense, but isn't easily inferred from your original post. Taking pictures outside in the cold would be mean, and some people don't realize that until they hear that feedback from multiple people. I have seen many posts from people wanting to have a winter outdoor weddings, and did not realize how awful an idea it was until others expressed concerns and pointed potential issues. It seems that you are not doing anything like that, so to answer you question you should look on amazon.

I don't know about affordable fur stoles, but I was in my friend's wedding in Philly last november and she got us all big plaid scarves to wear for photos and to keep as a gift. They were great!

I think shawls would be fine! Sorry somebody reported you though! I didn't think you meant you were going to force your bm's to stand out in the cold lol don't worry about the negative comments and get your girls some shawls! I think its a great and sweet gesture! I would check out etsy and ebay!

I love the pics Lynnie posted, and if I were a BM I would love something like that too. I am still trying to find something for myself and my girls, so maybe I will take some advice from here.
