Winter wedding exit ideas

Cara, on October 1, 2017 at 6:52 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 10

Ladies -- I'm getting married in January in northwest PA. Any wedding exit ideas instead of rice? Think sub freezing temps and snow. Trying to come up with an idea that isn't making anyone stand outside while we come out. EDIT-- this is for leaving the church, before the reception (which is at a different location).

Skip the exit photo. You can give people confetti or something similar to throw during the ceremony recessional instead. Don't make your guests stand outside for a photo op.

Well it's not really for a photo op

Why do you need people to throw rice or something unless you're having a photo taken? The only weddings I have been to where they did big exits with sparklers or other props it's been for photos

Originally wasnt going to do an exit. But with our new venue we have to be out by 11. So we will have everyone stand in the foyer of our venue and do something? But that's inside where there's heat. Otherwise no one needs to stand outside. I cant imagine my 90 year old great grandmother out in sub temperatures to throw rice at us to say goodbye for a picture. Just no.

What about a last dance? Have the DJ announce your last dance and ask your guests to join you on the dance floor. Fast or slow song, you would be surrounded by everyone. Immediately following the end of the song, you guys throw everyone a kiss and take off!

ETA: just read your update. My idea is meant for the reception.

Ok-- I should clarify. Here people throw rice or blow bubbles at/towards the newlyweds as they leave the church, before the reception.

I'm not sure if this is at all what you're thinking, but if you're talking of how to exit your ceremony, like a receiving line, without every one standing outside:

I like the practice where the bride and groom excuse the guests. Start at the first row/pew, the guests hug/congratulate you, and exit/head for the reception. It gives you a brief moment with each guest at the end of your ceremony.

It isn't the same as throwing rice by any means, but does stray from the lines outside the church.

Due to season/weather, I would skip the wedding ceremony exit. Head straight to reception venue or pic location.

Thank you ladies! I was thinking of releasing the pews instead, this gave me confirmation. Thanks!

The “pew release” is a nice option as it allows you a moment with each guest.
