Winter is my favorite season -- I love the cold weather (I do have to admit that I'm from Florida so our cold isn't nearly as cold as other locations) and the festive holidays during that time -- Christmas, New Years, Valentine's Day. When I was planning my wedding, I automatically knew I wanted to a winter wedding -- specifically in January which represents grand, new beginnings. When people think of winter weddings, they often think of Christmas or winter wonderland themes, but winter weddings are not limited to those themes and related color schemes. I got married in January 2021 at a resort with an oceanview, and my wedding colors were navy, burgundy and gold because I like that color combination. If I had to choose a theme, I would say the theme was elegance.

For those planning winter weddings, why did you choose your date? What are your plans, colors, and themes?

That all makes sense! And you’re right ... winter is off season for a lot of locales. I received a lot of perks or discounts I never would have gotten had I had my wedding in the spring or summer. In fact, my wedding was the only event on the resort property the weekend I got married so it was so easy to adjust and modify when the weather didn’t cooperate for an outside wedding.

I like how you think!! I got married in MLK weekend this year! I love your color palette. I’ve never heard of someone using the Northern Lights as inspiration, but it works! That is so unique!

A Christmas wedding, huh? I love Christmas and spending time with family on that day, so I can see a Christmas wedding working. I’m familiar with your area (my husband is actually from a super small town near Natchez), and you’re right, it’s doesn’t get miserably cold there. Good luck on your DIY projects. I am sure it will be beautiful and fun!

Oh wow! That sounds like a big production — especially planning it from Japan. But I can tell your excitement from your post. I’m sure it will be better
thank you imagined — celebrating the way you originally planned with family and friends you probably haven’t seen since you left. I’m excited for you!

I love winter as well but my wedding was originally a spring wedding, it has now been postponed 4 times due to the pandemic! Now here we are having a winter wedding. Only problem is we had purchased everything for wedding! So it’ll be spring in winter! 🤣🤣🤣

Oh wow! Postponing 4 times? You and your fiance are quite patient (I wish I had that gift. LOL!. As for a spring themed wedding in the winter, that's not a problem at all. These days, it's not unusual for people to have wedding colors that don't line up with the seasons - and that's okay. Your guests will probably enjoy a little springtime experience in the midst of a cold, drab winter!

We chose 1/1/22 for a few different reasons. FH and I are both back in school, with completely different school schedules. Because it’s technically a holiday, we knew we’d both be off and that our families will be around too. It’s also the first holiday we spent together as a couple and it means so much to his family already. We’re planning on having our rehearsal dinner be a new year’s eve party for our closest family and friends.
Our theme is simple, natural, romantic and our colors are shades of blues with greens and grays as accent colors, gold as the metal, and touches of wood. We’re getting married in Southern California, on a 60 acre property owned by a family friend under oak trees, the oldest of which is about 800 years old. Our reception will be in the massive garage that looks like a barn, and I’m planning on having paper star lanterns and lights hung up in the oak trees outside the garage.

And! As almost everyone has mentioned to my fiancé, he’ll never forget our anniversary.

We decided on a winter wedding date due to it being off-season from most weddings. In addition our thought process was hoping there would be more venue availability and cheaper rates during this time. This time of year is a double edged sword and comes with it's own unique challenges but we are also hoping there will be less impact of covid-19 restrictions during this time. Our colors will be light gray and lavender and alre likewise going for a more modern/rustic theme.

Gray and lavender are such beautiful colors! Winter can definitely be a double edged sword, but the rewards are greater than the risk! Good luck in your planning!

Wow! There is a lot of significant meeting behind your date choice -- and that's super cool! NYE and New Year's Day will definitely be a big celebration for you! Your colors and venue sound amazing. I can imagine the pictures of your reception - sounds like it will be absolutely gorgeous.

Our wedding date is 12/19/21. I wanted to get married on our 6 year anniversary and my 28th birthday which are both on the 18th but our venue was already booked that day. Since it’s a Sunday wedding we are saving a lot of money so that’s nice. Our colors are burgundy, blush, and hints of rose gold. My dress is blush so my bridesmaids will be wearing burgundy. I love the cold (we live in California so I know our cold is nothing compared to other states) and December has always been good to me(it is my birthday month) LOL. We are having 80 guests and our doggies will be in our ceremony!

Absolutely. I got married at a resort in Destin, Florida -- and the venue rental prices were 1/2 of what they normally are in the spring and summer. Plus, when we were unable to have the wedding on the deck overlooking the ocean because of the wind, we were able to easily move the ceremony into the ballroom since our wedding was the only event onsite that weekend. We would have NEVER been able to make those changes during peak season because the resort would have been full -- and we didn't have to pay for the change!

Your colors sound so dreamy! That is going to be beautiful. Like you, I love the cold during the winter months, but that's probably because I live in Florida. LOL! December is going to be an extra special month for you after your wedding!

I chose a winter wedding because I too am from Florida and wanted a time when it was not too hot. I also wanted the wedding to be a destination wedding in Key West so I wanted everyone to be able to enjoy the outdoors while visiting. My colors are burgundy and blush with some rose gold accents but well see what results! My wedding date is December 2021 so I’m excited to see everything decorated for Christmas Smiley smile I didn’t want a date too close to Christmas but planning later than anticipated due to Covid limited my wedding date options. But I’m excited!

This will probably sound hella silly but ever since I was a little girl I always dreamed of having a big house so I could have outrageously extravagant Christmas parties. So, of course, once my fiance asked me what kind of wedding I wanted I immediately knew I wanted a December one in a Victorian mansion. (Why get a mansion for just a party?) Plus I just love how beautiful everything looks that time of year! I think the December wedding was always my go-to, especially since the summers in San Antonio get too hot and the place is humid most of the year around. Thank goodness It's not an outdoor wedding!

That doesn't sound silly at all!! And you get a mansion for a party because your wedding will likely be the biggest party of your life.

    Hi Sharonda!

We're getting married January 2022, so def. a winter wedding for us! We chose that date because we HATE hot weather lol. We've been to so many weddings that were in the summer/early fall and in Georgia...it's miserable lol. We knew we didn't want to have our wedding during Spring or Summer because of that. Fall isn't an option because, although I love fall, we love football too lol. Most of our guests are huge football fans as well, and trying to pick a date would've been a nightmare!

We plan on having our ceremony outside in a beautiful open air chapel, with our reception being held inside! It rarely snows in Georgia, so that's not a concern. Our colors are light grey, natural greens, neutrals, with accents of gold and black! It's going to be very minimal, classic, and simple, which is 100% us!
