Winter wedding??

Alivia, on November 3, 2023 at 7:30 PM Posted in Planning 0 5
This is going to be a long explanation 😂
I am currently in nursing school, and my significant other is a Marine. We found out he is getting stationed in Hawaii, 5,000 miles away from me, and where he grew up as well (so all his family). We have been long distance all of our dating relationship for some context. I am in an accelerated nursing program, and will graduate next December. With that being said, I was told by some of my instructors, and found out through research, it is easier to take your NCLEX in the state youre planning to work in, which in this case would be Hawaii because we are planning to get married when I am done with school. We both have always wanted a spring wedding, but I want to take my NCLEX ASAP after graduating, which will be winter. We have made the decision I will not move with him until we are married, so we are trying to decide if a winter wedding is worth it. Because it will be December, im concerned about it being too close to Christmas. We don’t have any family that travels for the holidays so that’s not an issue. Just trying to figure out what’s best!!

Winter vs spring is simply a matter of a few months. If you have always wanted a spring wedding, then I would wait for spring. If you feel like you can’t possibly wait a few extra months, get married in December. If you have a winter wedding, just make sure it is a couple 2-3 weeks before or after Christmas. That should prevent any interference from the holiday. Best of luck to you!

I would discuss with your VIPs. There’s nothing wrong with a December wedding and this would not be a destination wedding, but it’s long distance for people at a time of year that may be more challenging for people it’s something to take into consideration.

Having a wedding close to Christmas is no matter so I don't think you need to poll others. Many people go to parties every weekend before and after Christmas. I would be more concerned about your personal plans: passing finals, graduating nursing school, hosting a wedding, moving to Hawaii, and passing the NCLEX all in the same month. Many wedding planning details are finalized in that last month including RSVPs, final headcount for caterer, seating, vows, attire alterations, final payments, logistics, etc.

Try to be more flexible with the timeline of your life plans (e.g. moving in before marriage) and give yourself grace and time to process all your milestones and achievements. Best wishes.

First thing: winter is off-season for weddings so some venues may be cheaper!! At least that's the case in my area - I'm getting married December 2024! I would check with VIPs (for me that was immediate family, bridal party, and grandparents). Ours is the 14th, so only 11 days before Christmas. Makes it a little hard for some of our out of town family members, since they can pretty much choose either my wedding, or Christmas to attend. But they were all ok with it!!

I really haven't had any issues with it being near the holidays.
