Wishing or Bath well

Annie, on March 29, 2019 at 8:50 AM Posted in Parties and Events 0 10

Has anyone heard of a bath or wishing well? I was invited to a bridal shower that said to bring an item for this, but I have no idea what it is. What type of items go into this? Thanks!

I have never heard of this, but I found this online:

"A wedding wishing well is a fancy donation box that gained popularity among bridal couples of certain countries (with one survey done in 2004 on Australia allegedly stating that up to 60% of weddings had them),[1][2] who have often lived together before marrying, or who have been previously married, and do not need any of the traditional wedding gifts. They are also sometimes found at showers to collect monetary gifts for the guests of honor, as well as wedding wishes or marriage quotes, poems and messages of congratulations. Wishing wells at bridal showers are popular in the NYC/NJ area. Most people bring small gifts such as spatulas or pot holders, to place in the wishing well. Wishing well gifts are in addition to gifts bought from the bride’s registry." - Wikipedia

I have no idea what a bath well is. A wish well is you asking for money at your shower. It's not polite at all.

The bride is from NJ so I'm not sure if it's for money or just small gifts. I asked when I RSVP'd and haven't heard back yet. Hopefully I'll be hear back soon and they can clarify. Thank you for this Smiley smile

I'm from NJ originally and I've always seen a wishing well as a place to leave small kitchen items (spatulas, etc.) or other little trinkets for the house, never money.

I recently found out what this was in September. It's exactly what Danielle said. The shower I went to the bride got kitchen items and items for their dog.

I am from NJ and have seen these before. As PP mentioned, they are for small things. Kitchen utensils, maybe small bathroom accessories, etc.

I had a wishing well at my first wedding. Its just a decorated well with a slot (a old school version of a card box) and guests put notes, well wishes, money, cards etc in it. It is an older tradition, now days, there are registries, card boxes and honeymoon funds etc.

I've been to showers with a wishing well (guess I'm old and they're outdated lol) It's for small inexpensive kitchen items, like spatulas, wooden spoons, pot holders, etc. Really for couples that are starting out and need all those types of things. I've never heard of it for money though. I've also never seen or heard of a bath well

I have heard friends from NYC area bring this up, and all but once, it was what we call a shower basket. Like Christmas stocking stuffers, small inexpensive things, usually for the house. From small kitchen wares, to individual spices, to fireplace matches, to small travel size shampoos, toothpastes, etc. The one time zi heard a bridesmaid suggest a wishing well that was collecting money, every bm or family present, turned on her, saying that like a Jack and Jill fundraiser, collecting money that way at a shower was tacky, tacky...and worse. That bridal party had mostly brides army nurses friends, and groom's college friends, about as spread across the country in origin as any group. And clearly, only one from an area or group that did not think collecting money at a shower, simply awful manners.

Thanks ladies! The host clarified what it was for: small bath and kitchen supplies. Now the amazon shopping can begin
